* Some rhetorical questions are asking for your sincere, contemplative answer, but most ALREADY HAVE AN IMPLIED ANSWER * Can be a handy hook for an introduction * Often convey sarcasm or work to emphasize/stress a point the writer is making. * IMPORTANT: Do not overuse the rhetorical question; too many rhetorical questions, back to back or interspersed throughout the paper, can look like filler in place of actual information. * Useful because, although the entire piece has subtly led to the rhetorical question’s answer the writer wants you to have, it has given the reader the impression he/she has arrived at that answer on his/her own.

* Take 30 seconds to figure out how you would change these sentences to make them parallel. * The teacher said that he was a poor student because he waited until the last minute to study for the exam, he completed his lab problems in a careless manner, and his motivation was low. * The dictionary can be used for these purposes: to find word meanings, pronunciations, correct spellings, and looking up irregular verbs.
