1 RUSSIAN REVOLUTIONS OF 1917

2 MARCH REVOLUTION  Started in February but most happened in March  Most events happened in Petrograd (now called Saint Petersburg)  Started from the effects from WW1  The people were done with the war and wanted it to end and Nicholas let his people die without thought.  Many Russians died and many had food shortage  There were 6 major days in this revolution

3 MARCH 4TH  Workers in Putilov engineering factory (largest factory) demanded 50% wage increase  Management refused so workers went on strike March 8th  30,000 workers got locked out so they talked to the rest of the workers and talked them out of working  Demonstrations (riots) occurred throughout the city March 9th  Riots got worse  Nicholas the second was informed and the Russian Parliament (Duma) asked if they could release emergency food supply but Nicholas refused  Nicholas said to take care of the riots.

4 MARCH 10TH  Police tried to stop riots but many people were killed and riots got worse  Rioters released prisoners and the soldiers sent to stop the riots joined them.  Nicholas was informed and he told Duma to stop meeting (fired them) March 11th  Duma disobeyed his orders (considered the start of the revolution)  Duma made a temporary government (provisional Governement) March 12th  Duma’s leader (Rodrianko) told Nicholas that riots had reached the royal family so Nicholas came back to Petrograd where Duma forced Nicholas to give up power

5 RESULTS OF THE MARCH REVOLUTION  Royalty had came to end in Russia (started in 1480-1917)  Many people were mad (still believed in royalty) so to stop from riots breaking out Duma put The Romanov family under house arrest in Ekaterinburg.  One day they were told to get their stuff and go to Germany  Taken to a cellar and shot by communist secret police Nicholas the 2 nd

6 IMPACTS ON SOCIETY, GOVERNMENT, ECONOMY After the war there was a spark in the economy had less unemploybility, before the war our country was a farm base economy but, we had some factories also after the war more establishments to more factories

7 BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION  Provisional government complete collapse. “ Bolshevik party, helped by German money.” Built up efficient party organization, brilliant propaganda machine, powerful private army  The private army was called “The Red Guards”

8 NOVEMBER 6 TH, 1917  Red Guards took bridges and telephones over November 7 th, 1917  Red Guards took over banks, government buildings, and the railway stations November 8 th,1917  Lenin announced new communist Government Causes of ww1  They were allies with Serbia so they were helping Serbia to fight against Germany and Russia population started to go done because of people were starving because Germany cut off the trade route with the starving and loss of life Russians decided to rebel
