VDMA Mobima-Bulletin September 2015 Mobima-Bulletin

VDMA Incoming orders and turnover in Germany Construction equipment Mobima-Bulletin In 2015, this industry developed in quite a similar way to last year: It experienced a strong spring period; throughout the second quarter, the amount of incoming orders saw a significant drop; followed by a relatively long summer slump, after which impulses by higher numbers of demands were noticeable again. However, all this has been happening on a slightly higher absolute level than in 2014. As regards the markets, North America and most of the European countries make for a positive mood – with the exception of France, which so far has been seeing a slump of –38 per cent. Russia remains in its extremely difficult situation, and the Chinese market keeps declining. In India, a slight rise is indicating a permanent improvement of the situation. For the fourth quarter, a slightly quieter development with decreasing dynamics in the markets of growth is to be expected sebastian.popp@vdma.org September 2015 Seite 2 | Incoming orders real Jan.-July 2015/14: 3 % Turnover real Jan.-July 2015/14: 9 %

VDMA Incoming orders and turnover in Germany Agricultural machinery Mobima-Bulletin The agricultural machines’ industry is seeing a downswing. After a double-digit decline in the first half of this year, the industry’s association is expecting this trend to continue also throughout the second half. This is indicated by the continuously dropping amount of demand. On the one hand, sales in Germany have meanwhile reached a level which is lower than last year’s, on the other hand, the weakness that can be detected on the export markets, such as the USA and France, does not yet see an end. In general, the low in demand for agricultural technology is deriving from saturation tendencies as well as a lower spending power by customers who themselves are suffering from decreasing prices for their agricultural products. In addition, sales in Eastern Europe are still burdened by import restrictions that keep being in place as well as by the critical political situation in this region. gerd.wiesendorfer@vdma.org September 2015 Seite 3 | Incoming orders real Jan.-July 2015/14: - 14 % Turnover real Jan.-July 2015/14: - 11 %

VDMA Incoming orders and turnover in Germany Industrial trucks Seite 4 | August 2015 Mobima-Bulletin For the manufacturers of industrial trucks, 2015 so far developed in a very positive way. With a rise in incoming orders and turnover, the companies are confidently awaiting the year end business. Traditionally, the fourth quarter of the year is the strongest for this industry. It currently looks as if the German manufacturers might even beat last year’s record. In 2014, they made a turnover of 3.5 billion EUR and, with this, an increase by 12 per cent. juliane.friedrich@vdma.org

VDMA Incoming orders and turnover in Germany Cranes Seite 5 | August 2015 Mobima-Bulletin With cranes and lifting tools – the biggest section of the conveyance technology industry – the development with regard to incoming orders in 2015 is rather stagnant. Compared to the same period last year, manufacturers are suffering a slight loss. On the other hand, though, turnover is showing a small upward movement. In 2014, the German manufacturers made 4.7 billion EUR in total. For the current year, similar results are being expected. juliane.friedrich@vdma.org

VDMA Incoming orders and turnover in Germany Engines and systems Seite 6 | August 2015 Mobima-Bulletin As for engines and systems, the amount of incoming orders as well as the turnover per month is fluctuating strongly. On average, however, a side movement can be seen, with no indication of a change in direction. So, at the moment, the industry’s sales are still defying global imponderability: in addition to the problems we see on our doorstep, the conflict in the Middle East and the Ukraine as well as the drop in price of oil and gas, there is a declining growth to be noticed in important newly industrializing countries. The demand of engines to be used in mobile machinery was rising throughout the first months of this year. Meanwhile, the amount is back to its weak level that marked the turn of the year. jens.slama@vdma.org Incoming orders real Jan.-July 2015/14: - 2 % Turnover real Jan.-July 2015/14: - 4 %

VDMA Incoming orders and turnover in Germany Hydraulics Seite 7 | August 2015 Mobima-Bulletin In 2014, turnover for hydraulics grew by 4 per cent to 4.4 billion EUR. For the year 2015, an increase of only 1 per cent is being expected – due to some customer segments currently experiencing weaknesses and also some international crises going on. Mobile hydraulics is suffering from the difficult situation in some important customer industries, especially agricultural machinery. Due to this, most European and international partner associations are announcing a drop in incoming orders with regard to mobile hydraulics. As for sales, however, the same values can still be found in some areas. In light of this, the evaluation of the development in the months to come is somewhat unclear and the outlook therefore moderate. sylvia.grohmann@vdma.org Incoming orders real Jan.-July 2015/14: - 4 % Turnover real Jan.-July 2015/14: - 2 %

VDMA Incoming orders and turnover in Germany Power transmission engineering Seite 8 | August 2015 Mobima-Bulletin Power transmission engineering is still experiencing a side movement. Compared to previous years’, the current situation - adjusted for price - with regard to incoming orders in the period of January to August 2015 is showing a decrease of three per cent and a stagnant turnover and therefore makes this year’s goal of a three per cent growth seem difficult to achieve. Markets in Asia, China in particular, the US and South America are currently very difficult. Mobile machines, one of the industry’s most important customer sectors, do not show many impulses at the moment and all hopes have therefore been placed on the last quarter of this year. dirk.decker@vdma.org Incoming orders real Jan.-July 2015/14: - 3 % Turnover real Jan.-July 2015/14: 0 %
