Different Investment Options Savings Account: Savings accounts provide security for your money and some interest rate. Its generally money you don't intend to use for daily expenses. Sometimes there are extra fees as well as limited transactions. Generally they seem to have low interest rates. They should not be used for long term holding periods Certificate of Deposit (CD): Certificate of deposits tie up your invested money in a bank for a set duration of time. Times can range from three months to more than six years. Generally the longer you hold your money in a CD, the higher interest rate they offer you. Rates of return are higher than most investments. Keep in mind though that, you can get penalized if money is removed earlier. Money Market Account: This is a deposit account offered by banks. It is for short term borrowing and lending (several days to a year) It is insured by the federal government and has a lower interest rate than most investments. It's considered to be very liquid (easy for investor to get money out of the investment) and safe. There are however limited transactions, and you must maintain a certain balance to receive a higher rate of interest Individual Retirement Fund (IRA): This is a retirement plan that is tax deferred. It is so people can set aside money for their retirements each year. Interest rates are relatively high compared to other accounts. There are however restrictions on how much you can deposit in a year and the age until you can invest.

Do you need to borrow money? (money market account can do so) How much do you want to invest?
