3 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland NES and the Support Workforce This project phase of work sits within a wider programme for NES (£250k over 2 years) Three threads of work brought together under one umbrella (HCSW Project) Supported by NES/mandated by Scottish Government to bring consistency and coherence to a complex agenda

7 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland For the first time......... 2015-2016 Priorities for action include: Scottish Government and others will: Develop a learning and development framework and career pathways taking account of prior learning, particularly for support workers

8 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland Context 2014-16 Everyone Matters: Workforce Vision 2020 – Commitment to learning for support workers Everyone Matters Implementation Plan 2015-2016: Develop a learning and development framework and career pathways taking account of prior learning, particularly for support workers

9 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland 5 Priority areas 3. “Capable workforce” The focus this year is on developing a more consistent, Scotland-wide approach to learning and development. Action: Develop a learning and development framework and career pathways, taking account of prior learning, particularly for support workers.

10 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland Role of Learning and Development Leads Further develop, test and embed the three learning pathways with all stakeholders Supporting pathway development with each user group Bring networks and groups together to embed resources in practice

11 Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland What this means.... – Increase access to learning and development opportunities – Develop and embed learning and development / careers pathways which are nationally agreed and bring consistency – Support the best use of all available resources

Stakeholders want nationally accredited qualifications relevant to job families... identifies qualifications under the three headings - Specialist: to develop the specialist skills needed in a role - Transferable: relevant to a range of different roles - Management: supporting supervisory/leadership skills -SCQF level -Career Framework
