November 19, 2014 Class starter – Define the word “chivalry“ and give an example of chivalrous behavior in Chaucer’s time(use your phone if you need to). Is chivalry alive in any way today? Give a modern example. Read from “The Prologue,” lines 455 – 486 (the Wife of Bath) and characterize her on the same page you wrote your notes yesterday: How do her clothes reveal her status? She’s had five husbands, for various reasons not mentioned here. How might this reveal or affect, her character? Would you say she is a typical woman for the time period? Why or why not?

November 19, 2014 Read from “The Prologue,” lines 665 – 710 (the Pardoner) and characterize him on the same page you wrote your notes yesterday: Include physical description, both his appearance and his voice. Based on context clues, what do you think a Pardoner does for a living? Is there any satire (in the form of exaggeration or ridicule) or irony used? What is implied about his character?
