Mano a Mano 3 Phase II Internet Course Week 12 – Topic VIII Putting It All Together Drs. Ellen Marshall and Cathy McAuliffe
2
Why put it all together? We want you to take all the parts and see them as a whole In order to do this, you will be asked to investigate your understanding of how all the topics are connected You will also be asked to go back to your original project and think about how all this impacts that project and ultimately your early childhood classroom…
3
What Is It We Are Putting Together? Theories of Learning Brain Development Team Building Early Childhood Program Structure Curriculum Change Mentoring
4
Theories of Learning What did you learn about learning that you can/should relate to Brain development? Team building? Early childhood program structure? Curriculum? Change? Mentoring?
5

Early Childhood Program Structure What did you learn about early childhood program structure that you can/should relate to Change? Mentoring?
8
One way of looking at how all this goes together On the following slide, you will see a visual representation of how we see the general connections between these topics What’s missing is an explanation of WHY we made these connections Go ahead and look at it!
9
Brain Development Team Building Early Childhood Program Structure Change and Mentoring Theories of Learning Curriculum
10
Why? In the last slide, you saw our construction of one way to connect the different topics we have covered in the Internet course. Why do you think we made some lines thick double arrows? What is the relationship between the items that are connected with thick double arrows? Why do you think we made some lines dotted connectors? What is the relationship between the items that are connected with dotted lines?
11
Why? The thick lined arrows indicate a CLEAR connection between the two topics The dotted lines indicate more of an indirect connection; but there is still a connection In the following few slides you will see how some previous Mano a Mano teams represented connections. Please realize that their topics were slightly different from yours.
12
Here’s how one Mano a Mano team showed the relationship between different topics
13
And here’s how another team showed relationships between those same topics
14
And another team’s representation
15
And one last example
16
Comments: These were visual representations of connections Each group provided detailed oral comments to explain their connections which are visually represented in the posters If you decide to a visual representation, we need you to provide detailed written explanations to accompany the visual so we know that you have really thought about the materials
17
Activity #1 So…we are going to do something new as we near the end of this course! We are going to create teams, and you will work on this activity within that team, using email!

Working Together as a Team Remember what you need and what you expect! Communicate with your team members! There are times when one team member, for one reason or another, can’t or won’t participate fully Be prepared for everyone to work together But also be prepared to make the project work even if there’s a problem with a team member Bottom line, do your best to work as a team, and get the assignment in by Sunday May 2 …we WILL NOT accept individual work…
21
Before you get started Practice putting it all together! http://www.monkeysee.com/play/1439-salsa-dance-the- basic-components http://www.monkeysee.com/play/1439-salsa-dance-the- basic-components Note: there is a short commercial before the video
22
Salsa Dancing?? If you already know how to dance the Salsa, you probably do it automatically The instructors in the video analyzed the dance in order to teach it to others We are asking you to truly analyze what you have learned as a result of this Internet course, and begin to put the parts together into the entire gestalt (the whole) of the early childhood classroom.
23
Activity #1 Go to the Putting It All Together activity form You may use the form we have provided OR you may come up with your own way to visualize and explain the relationship between the topics; this must be decided as a team What are the connections? There is no one right way to do this activity! And be prepared! We are asking you to engage in higher order thinking!
24
Higher Order Thinking We are asking you to Analyze Synthesize Evaluate So take your time…be patient with yourselves
25
Bloom’s Taxonomy Here’s a quick overview of Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Review it to refresh your knowledge of higher order thinking skills! http://www.officeport.com/edu/blooms.htm http://www.officeport.com/edu/blooms.htm
26
Activity #1 Post your completed activity One per team Be sure to put all team members’ names on it
27
Activity #2 Yep, we want you to do one more thing!!! Look one more time at your original Project that you planned after Santo Domingo Identify at least one modification you really should make so that your project reflects what you have learned during this online course
28
Activity #2 Go to the Project Comments page and discuss the change (or changes) you have identified for your Project
