The Lord’s prayer Teach us to pray

Time. We need that time spent with Him because it is God Who answers prayer. It is God Who changes circumstances and touches lives. It - is- that special time spent in prayer before God that marks the difference between mediocrity and greatness in the Christian life! Many call it their quiet time.

Closeness The disciples had just witnessed Jesus praying, they noticed the closeness he had with the Father. They witnessed the miracles that He performed after prayer, Such as : The Feeding of the 5,000 in Matt. 15; And note, It says :He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, he broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

4. Reigning Thirdly. Prayer Is About Reigning– Thy kingdom come- The furtherance of His works and His glory! Prayer allows us to participate in God’s kingdom work around the world! Money given to The Potters Field by us is participating in God’s Kingdom. Nothing less. It is not just supporting the community it is being part of the Kingdom of God.

Point 1 Resting 1. Prayer Is About Resting– Our Father which art in Heaven- Who He is and what He can do! Jer. 33:3. says the same ‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ Prayer doesn’t change anything, but God does! He is our Father, 1 John 3:1-2! We can rest in that relationship!

Point 2 Reverent Hallowed be thy name- Paul says in 1 Thes. 5:18; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. And in Eph. 5:20; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; And in Phil. 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.Always take the time to worship the Lord in prayer! Too often we run into the throne room with our wish list and forget just to love on Him!

Point 3 Reigning Prayer Is About Reigning– Thy kingdom come- The furtherance of His works and His glory! Prayer allows us to participate in God’s kingdom work around the world! Money given to The Potters Field by us is participating in God’s Kingdom. Nothing less. It is not just supporting the community it is being part of the Kingdom of God.

4. Resigning 4thly Prayer Is About Resigning– Thy will be done - As John 5:14-15. says: This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. Who’s will do you really want?

5. Requesting Prayer Is About Requesting– Give us this day our daily bread- Phil. 4:6; Says : Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. While Jn. 14; Says “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. There is a proviso, Jesus qualifies this by saying “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments”. It follows If you do not love him you won’t Keep them

6. Releasing Prayer Is About Releasing– Forgive us our sins; for we also forgive everyone that is indebted to us– There is a two-fold message here. 1.) We are to release our sins- 1 John 1:9. Not my neighbour’s sins, but my own! 2.) We are to release the sins of others- Matt. 6:15; says ; “But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your sins” That means : Regardless of what they may have done or said to you; or done or said about you!

7. Relying Prayer Is About Relying– Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil– This is another two-fold request. 1.) A Request for guidance- We need His guidance to make it through this pilgrim journey; but I am glad He promised it to us, 2.) A Request For Deliverance And Victory- Paul makes this very clear in 1 Cor. 15:57; He writes but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

8. Rejoicing And, of course: Prayer Is About Rejoicing– For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever. Amen– A good portion of our prayer time is to be spent lifting up Him and praising His name.. Read the Psalms and hear the heart of the Psalmist as it is lifted repeatedly toward Heaven in praise to His Name. Look at PSALM 113

Psalm 113 The LORD Exalts the Humble. PRAISE the LORD! Praise, O servants of the LORD, Praise the name of the LORD. 2 Blessed be the name of the LORD From this time forth and forever. 3 From the rising of the sun to its setting The name of the LORD is to be praised. 4 The LORD is high above all nations; His glory is above the heavens.

F-A-C-T-S Note: Prayer can be described by the acronym FACTS. F=Faith; A=Adoration; C=Confession; T=Thanksgiving; S=Supplications. Sometimes, we will pray about all of these things, at other times, only some will be addressed. But, these are the things Jesus has commanded us to pray about. He will honour proper praying!.

IMPLEMENT Verses. 5-10 It Is Discharged Through Steadfast Prayer- This is a promise of success! He will hear you and He will answer you, Isa. says: Just keep knocking; He will answer in His time! Now v. 6- Note All verbs are present, active, imperatives. “Keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking.”

PROPER MOOD FOR PRAYER The proper mood for prayer is one of absolute faith and dependence that God will do as He has said He would do! Faith is the key that opens the vast storehouses of God’s provision and pours them out on a humanity that will simply believe in God. Faith is indispensable to answered prayer - Paul writes to the Romans It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles

My Prayer life! It may be that you are out of fellowship with God and your prayer life is hindered as a result, As Psalm. 66 says >this would be a good time to get that fixed up. It may be that you have never even been saved; this would be a good time to come to Him for that need as well. If your prayer life is like mine, there is plenty of room for improvement. I think this would be a good time for us to begin the process of renovation in our prayer lives. If He has called you to refine your praying so that it more closely fits His pattern, then I invite you to come before Him and work on that matter. Well last word, there are over 100 times when the Bible tells us to ask.
