3 Project definition Project – planned actions with preliminary identified aims, terms, cost, risks and expected results.

4 Grant - financial assets given by donator / donor (fund, corporation, governmental institution or a private person) to non- governmental, non-commercial organization or private person for project implementation.

7 Project history (description pattern) Information about projects over the last 1-3 years in short: Project implementation dates Project name Donor who supported the project Grant amount (if donor requests this information) Main aim, types of activities with results For example: 2007-2008 Project “Viva, volunteers”. Training for 30 managers of volunteering programs, issuing promotional products which promotes voluntary work; carrying out international volunteers conference (75 participants).

8 Project name should: reflect the core of the project be short meaningful positive easy to translate

9 Problem statement Problem statement is performed as per the following scheme: 1. Description of problematic situation: describes situation which needs to be changed in short outlines people affected by the problem gives quantitative information shows dynamics of situation development in numbers considers needs and aims of clients for situation improvement

10 Problem statement 2. Reasons of problem / problematic situation rise: what was the reason of the problem? is there one or several reasons? are these reasons connected?

11 Problem statement 3. Consequences of problematic situation What are the consequences of the problem which isn’t being solved? What amount of people do these consequences have impact on? Forecast/assumption regarding dynamics of problematic situation development if it is not solved.

12 Problem statement Why your organization decides to deal the problem? (if it is not described somewhere else in application) Does this project comply with organization programmatic activity? Does the organization have previous work experience in similar sphere? Are there specialists in the organization who will provide effective project implementation? Does the organization have relevant skills and experience of project implementation?

13 Project aim Aim – is a positive final result which is planned to be achieved out of project implementation. Aim – is positive changes and acquisitions which society will receive if you solve specific described problem.

14 Aim statement Aim statement begins with a noun which shows qualitative changes in society, community (or in connections, relations, people’s behavior etc.) For example: improvement, increase, decrease, prevention etc.

15 Project aim Aim statement should indicate: 1.Specific problem, which your organization solve in the project. Examples of specific problems: lack of information, drug dependence etc.; 2. Target group, whose problem will be solved by the project; 3. With the help of which or by which methods will the aim be achieved.

16 Aim statement Project aim should logically come from the described problem. Aim should be stated in 1-2 sentences.

17 Examples of aim statement: Decrease of amount of homeless elderly people of the town N by creation of orphanage for homeless temporary stay. Improvement of legal awareness of students of higher educational establishments of the town N by organization of Students legal consultation.

18 Project task Project task – is a range of specific achievements directed to solution of specific problem. Task – is short specified statements which in more detail describe the results which are expected and altogether will provide achievement of main project aim.

19 Project task Every task should indicate: main changes, which will occur in society as a result of task performance; clients, in whose lives these changes will occur; qualitative indicator of result of specific task performance; time, during which it is planned to perform a task.

20 Project task For task statement use verbs which have the meaning of completion To decrease, to increase, to produce, to prepare, to organize, to set the order etc.

21 Project task During task statements use SMART criteria: S - /specific/ M - /measurable/ A - /area-specific/ R - /realistic/ T - /time-bound/

22 Examples of task statement To improve conditions of overnight stay of 60 elderly people of the town N till the end of the project. Provide not less than 80 free consultations to students of higher educational establishments of the town N (during first half of a year of project implementation).

23 Project target groups Target group / Target audience Project clients / Service users Beneficiaries – those who receive benefits from project implementation Direct service users should be identified very specifically Secondary target group

24 Project implementation methods Section includes: - list of methods and their description, - justification of selected methods. Examples: For project aim achievement methods will be used as follows: research, which will allow to clarify state of homelessness of elderly people in the town N; trainings, which will allow to increase organizational capacity of local NGOs and let them use it practically; informational campaign will be held for dissemination of information about ways of help to homeless people by efforts of local community and for stimulation of development of charity works by business companies.

26 Expected project results To describe project results indicators are used. Indicators - are general numeric and descriptive evidence which help to compare existing results with the planned ones.

27 Types of indicators Quantitative indicators – evidence on project activities expressed in numbers. Qualitative indicators – descriptive evidences of project activities. Types of indicators by time: starting mid-term final

28 Types of indicators Indicators of activities: Indicators of project influence: Qualitative / quantitative indicators are used: - Lever of young people awareness about … has increased - Amount of law violations among town teenagers has decrease on 40% (combined indicator). Quantitative indicators: 3 trainings "topic” are held for -50 unemployed women; -20 legal consultations for...... Indicators- products Issued: - 2 leaflets “name” 500 copies - Leaflet “name” 1000 copies

29 Project monitoring and evaluation Monitoring – process of constant accumulation of information on all project aspects with the aim of: determination of implementation progress and final completion of planned actions; comparison of current situation and plan. Evaluation – is a process of information gathering and analysis with the aim of: determination of compliance of events to project, planned aims; evidence of effectiveness of selected events for achievement of project purposes.
