Program Overview Partnership between Georgia Tech and Georgia High Schools Designed to provide math courses to talented students who have completed qualifying high school Calculus courses. First year: Linear Algebra (MATH 1554) and Multivariable Calculus (MATH 2551) Second year: Applied Combinatorics (MATH 3012) and Number Theory and Cryptography (MATH 2803.) Courses are taught at the college level with Georgia Tech standards

Distance Math vs. Freshman Admission Admission Processes are separate Separate decisions Freshman admission considers non-academic factors that are not included in Distance Math admission How competitive are Distance Math students in the freshman admission process? 406 Applied for Freshman Admission for Fall 2016 368 Accepted 38 Denied or Wait List 30 students who were denied admission in Distance Math were admitted as freshmen

2016-2017 Admission Criteria Minimum Requirements: Score of 4 or 5 on AP Calculus BC exam 3.5 math GPA on GT’s recalculated scale Competitive Ranges (middle 50%): College level courses: 5 – 8 GPA: 4.0 – 4.46 Numeric average: 98.36 – 100.7 SAT CR + M: 1410 – 1540 ACT C: 32 - 35

Competitive Admission Process Meeting minimum requirements DOES NOT guarantee admission Demand for this program exceeds capacity of 450 students Fall 2015: 592 students applied 453 admitted Admission will be offered to the most competitive applicants Have a back-up plan Alternative high school courses Other dual enrollment options

Application Instructions Submit online application between May 15 and June 15. It can be found at www.admission.gatech.edu/dualenrollment/application-and- admission. www.admission.gatech.edu/dualenrollment/application-and- admission. Send transcript that includes Spring 2016 grades Have SAT/ACT and AP Calculus BC scores sent directly to GT from the testing agency to arrive by July 15.

Online Application Complete all required fields on the application Graduation Date: refers to your expected high school graduation date DO NOT leave residency information blank Can self-report SAT & ACT scores, but official reports from the testing agencies are still required Must upload documentation (transcripts or report cards) that shows grades through Spring 2016

SAT/ACT Scores Scores are due by July 15 th SAT Code: 5248 ACT Code: 0818 We will use the highest section scores (Critical Reading, English, Math, and Writing) from either test and any test dates sent to Georgia Tech We encourage you to have a writing section score

AP Exam Scores List Georgia Tech as the test score recipient on the day of the exam If you wait to get your score and then send it, we may not get it before July 15. SAT/AP Code: 5248

Student Responsibilities Complete application process properly (including transcripts and test scores) Check and respond to e-mails throughout the summer Establish BuzzPort account If admitted, complete enrollment forms by August 15

Parent Responsibilities NONE (OK, you will be asked to sign a couple of forms if your student is offered admission, but you have no responsibility in the admission process.)

Course Enrollment All enrollment documents and information will be e-mailed to admitted students Items to complete by August 15: Lawful Presence Verification MOWR Application GT will register students for the course each term

Move On When Ready Coordinated through the Georgia Student Finance Commission Does not count toward HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship 127 paid- hours limit MOWR application should be submitted after acceptance into the program www.gacollege411.org

Eligibility Participating high school or home study program Approved college course work Compliance with Selective Service (men only) Award covers cost of tuition, fees and books. Without MOWR funding, the classes cost: $1308 tuition $492 mandatory fees Approximately $150 books Total: Approximately $1950 each semester Move On When Ready

Courses Linear Algebra (Fall semester) topics include linear systems, eigenvalue problems, orthogonality applications include Google page rank, least-squares, computer graphics Multivariable Calculus (Spring semester) extends concepts from differential and integral calculus to multivariable functions applications include constrained optimization, centers of mass, fluid flow

Lectures and Recitations Classes held from 8:05 am to 8:55 am Mon/Wed/Fri: lectures Tue/Thu: recitations Run simultaneously with Georgia Tech students All classes will be recorded and made available to students All students are expected to attend classes five mornings per week

Homework, Quizzes Homework is completed online Three to five quizzes held at your high school, proctored by someone from your school, sent in to Georgia Tech for grading, and returned to students after they are graded. Make-up quizzes will be available Instructors give the same homework, quizzes, final exam
