To insert music, click the Insert tab and then click the down arrow below the Sound button. You can insert sound from a saved file, from the Clip Organizer, play a CD, or record your own sounds. The clip art task pane shows all sounds: short sound clips and music clips. To listen to a sound or music clip, click the down arrow and choose Preview/Properties. A dialog box appears allowing you to play the clip automatically or start it manually with a mouse click. Spotlight on PresentationsChapter 49 Adding Music from the Clip Organizer

Click the Sound Tools Options tab to display that ribbon. Looping is making a music clip play continuously. To set the music so it plays throughout all the slides, click the down-arrow next to the Play Sound and choose Play across slides. Click next to Loop Until Stopped to place a checkmark in the box. Spotlight on PresentationsChapter 410 Setting up the Sound

After placing the CD in the disk drive, click the Insert tab and then click the down arrow next to Sound and choose Play CD Audio Track. The Insert CD Audio dialog box opens. From this box, you can choose which tracks to play and choose to loop the music if the presentation is longer than the music clip. You can then choose if you want it to play automatically or if you want to click on the mouse to start it on each slide. Click the CD Audio Tools Options tab to display that ribbon. Click the down-arrow next to Play Track and choose Play across slides. Click Loop Until Stopped, if necessary. Spotlight on PresentationsChapter 411 Playing a CD Audio Track During a Presentation

Sound effects are specific sounds, such as a dog barking or a baby crying, used primarily for emphasis. Click the Insert tab and then click the down arrow below Sound. The Clip Art task pane opens again, displaying all of the sound files located on your computer. To listen to the clip, click the down-arrow on the right side, and choose Preview/Properties. When you have chosen the sound you want, a small, yellow speaker appears. Spotlight on PresentationsChapter 412 Sound Effects

Click the Record button, which looks like a red circle. When you are done, click the Stop button, which looks like a black square. Spotlight on PresentationsChapter 413 Recording a Sound

Music can be formatted to play throughout the entire presentation. Sounds can be inserted from the Clip Organizer, from a saved file, or from a CD. Personalized sounds can also be recorded and inserted. Music can be formatted to play only on certain slides. Looping the music makes it play over and over until it is stopped. Copyright laws restrict the amount of music used in a presentation to 30 seconds or 10 percent of the song, whichever is less, when the presentation is either sold or shown to a large audience. A sound effect is a specific sound added for emphasis. PowerPoint will allow you to record your own personal sound. Chapter 415Spotlight on Presentations
