2 Paris is the capital and largest city of France. It is situated on the river Seine, in northern France. The Parisii, a sub-tribe of the Celtic Senones, inhabited the area near the river Seine from around 250 BC.

3 Paris as a global city Paris is today one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, and its influences in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities.

4 Paris as a global city Paris is considered one of the greenest, most expensive and most liveable cities in Europe.

5 Paris as a global city The Paris region has the highest concentration of higher education students in the European Union, is the first in Europe in terms of research and development capability and expenditure and is considered one of the best cities in the world for innovation.

6 Economy of Paris While the Paris economy is largely dominated by services, it remains an important manufacturing powerhouse of Europe, especially in industrial sectors such as automobiles, aeronautics, and electronics.

7 Climate of Paris Paris has the typical Western European oceanic climate which is affected by the North Atlantic Current. Over a year, Paris' climate can be described as mild and moderately wet.

8 Travelling to Paris If you are going to make a journey to Paris you can get there by plain or by train. Travelling by air is very convenient and quick. The flight from Moscow to Paris lasts four hours. But travelling by air is more expensive than any other method.

9 Travelling to Paris Modern trains are also rather comfortable. If you are hungry you can have a meal in the dining-car. It takes almost two days to get from Moscow to Paris by train and you can also have a wonderful bed in a sleeper.

10 Paris as a popular destination With about 42 million tourists annually in the city and its suburbs, Paris is the most visited city in the world. The city and its region contain 3,800 historical monuments and four UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

12 Notre Dame de Paris Notre Dame de Paris is a Gothic, Roman Catholic cathedral in Paris. It is the cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of Paris. Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in France and in Europe.

13 The Louvre The Louvre is one of the world's largest museums, the most visited art museum in the world and a historic monument. The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace which began as a fortress built in the late 12th century under Philip II.

14 The Louvre The Louvre has been using as a museum, to display the nation's masterpieces since XVIII century. The collection is divided among eight departments: Egyptian Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculpture; Decorative Arts; Paintings; Prints and Drawings.

15 The Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower is a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The tower is the tallest building in Paris and the most-visited paid monument in the world; millions of people ascend it every year.

16 The Eiffel Tower It was built in 1889 and named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel. The tower has three levels for visitors. The walk from ground level to the first level is over 300 steps.

17 The Avenue des Champs-Élysées The Avenue des Champs-Élysées is a street in Paris. With its cinemas, cafés, luxury specialty shops and clipped horse-chestnut trees, it is one of the most famous streets and one of the most expensive strips of real estate in the world.

18 The Avenue des Champs-Élysées Several French monuments are also on the street, including the Arc de Triomphe and the Place de la Concorde.

19 Triumphal Arc Triumphal Arc is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. It honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars.

20 Triumphal Arc The names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.

21 The Place de la Concorde The Place de la Concorde is one of the major public squares in Paris. It is the largest square in the French capital.

22 The Place de la Bastille The Place de la Bastille is a square in Paris, where the Bastille prison stood until the «Storming of the Bastille» and its subsequent physical destruction during the French Revolution.

23 The Place de la Bastille The July Column which commemorates the events of the July Revolution stands at the center of the square.

24 Disneyland Paris Disneyland Paris is a holiday and recreation resort, a new town in the eastern suburbs of Paris. Disneyland Paris is composed of two theme parks, a retail, dining and entertainment district, and seven Disney- owned hotels.

25 Disneyland Paris Operating since 12 April 1992, it was the second Disney resort to open outside the United States (following Tokyo Disney Resort) and the first to be owned and operated by Disney.

26 Moulin Rouge Moulin Rouge is a cabaret in Paris. It was built in 1889. Close to Montmartre it is marked by the red windmill on its roof. The Moulin Rouge is best known as the spiritual birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance.

27 Moulin Rouge Today the Moulin Rouge is a tourist attraction, offering musical dance entertainment for visitors from around the world. Much of the romance of twentieth- century France is still present in the club's decor.

28 Montmartre Montmartre is a hill which is 129 meters high, giving its name to the surrounding district in the north of Paris. Montmartre is primarily known for the white- domed Basilica of the SacréCœur on its summit and as a nightclub district.

29 Montmartre Many artists had studios or worked around the community of Montmartre such as Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh.
