Changes to Assessment in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Information and Guidance on the Changes and Expectations for 2015/16

Changes to the Curriculum The new curriculum sets much higher expectations which all schools have had to work hard to meet since the beginning of last year. Your child will still be taught with the highest expectations and cover all required elements of the curriculum, similar to previous years.

Assessment and Reporting at Key Stage 1 Before 2016Now Tests could be taken any time in Year 2 Tests have to be taken in May There were tests for writing, spelling, maths and reading. There are tests for reading, writing, maths and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. The tests were based on the old National Curriculum The tests are based on the New National Curriculum and are therefore at a much higher level Children were given a level for example a 2b. Children are given a test mark. This is then turned into a scaled score so they can be compared with children nationally. Based on this score you will be told that your child has either met or not met the required standard of the test. There were separate level 2 and 3 papers Both papers will start with easy questions and gradually get harder- testing all abilities.

Higher Attaining Pupils In the past, additional Level 6 tests were produced for children who demonstrated higher than expected attainment, above Level 5. From this year, there won’t be any separate tests for the most able children. Instead, each test will have scope for higher attaining pupils to show their strengths.
