Warm up 2 Turn your Thanksgiving story into your 1 st hour tray Have your syllabus out on your desk and opened to the page with your parent signature IF YOU HAVE IT SIGNED ( I will come around to check) Write under warm up 2: How was your thanksgiving break? What was one thing you really liked? What was one thing you wish you could have changed? How would you have changed it? (3 sent. Min.)

3. Warm up 3 Clear off your desk and have this warm up and a pencil out. The next slide will have a topic on it and I want you to write as much as you can about this topic for 5 minutes. This should be a “free write” and you will write as the thoughts come to you. Once the next slide is up, you may begin.

4. Warm up 3 continued You have 5 minutes to write as much as you can about the “American Dream.”

5. Warm up 4 Choose 3 vocab words and write a sentence about the “American Dream” using one word for each sentence.

6. Warm up 5 What would your “perfect snow day” consist of? Describe your day from the moment you find out about the day off until night. (5 sent. Minimum.)

7. Warm up 6 Hand in vocabulary unit 6 exercises and breakdowns (keep your words). Use 3 different vocabulary words in 3 different sentences to talk about what you plan to do this weekend.

8. Warm up 7 Choose the 3 vocabulary words from the current unit that you think you will have the most trouble with. Draw a picture to represent each word.

9. Warm up 8 Look through the poems that we have studied so far. Which one would you rename? What would you rename it? Why?

15. Warm up 14 Pick up a poetry project rubric from the front table. Read through the rubric What do you need to do today in order to be ready to present tomorrow?

16. Warm up 15 This is the time of year known for traditions! What tradition is your favorite (explain it to me) and why?

17. Warm up 16 Part 1- Write one sentence about a good thing that happened over break and one sentence about something that you wish you could have changed. Part 2- People have referred to America as both as melting pot and as a salad bowl. Which one do you feel is more accurate and why?

18. Warm up 17 Use 3 different vocabulary words from unit 7 to write about Winter.

19. Warm up 18 Using the rubric that we looked at yesterday, write 3 sentences about what a “6” essay would look like.

20. Warm up 19 Choose the 3 vocabulary words that you think you might have the most trouble with and draw a picture that represents each word.

21. Warm up 20 What would you be doing today if you were on Summer break? (3 sentence minimum) Turn in vocab hw and warm ups 12-20

22. Warm up 21 Think about the writing process that we went through with the writing prompt. What is the first step after reading through the question?

23. Warm up 22 Write two sentences about how the writing prompt went yesterday. For those of you who need it, after the warm ups there will be five minutes to complete the prompt.

24. Warm up 23 Write the root words from unit 7 and their definitions here. Vocabulary test tomorrow!

25. Warm up 24 Take a sticky note from my desk that IS NOT your group’s. Using the words on the sticky note you take, write 3 sentences about what you predict you might see in The Great Gatsby. Make sure your partner uses this sticky note too.

26. Warm up 25 Think about the activity we did to brainstorm on what teachers wear/say/do. What are other examples of groups that you notice in similar ways (based on what they wear, say, do)?

32. Warm up 31 Write down this literary term and definition: Allusion- an indirect reference to another literary work or to a famous person, place or event. We will discuss examples of allusions in The Great Gatsby. Please write down an example here.

33. Warm up 32 Write down the following word and definition: Motif- an object or idea that repeats itself throughout a literary work We will discuss examples in The Great Gatsby, record them below your definition.

34. Warm up 33 Take a sheet with Chapter 6 questions from the front table. Read through and form a prediction for chapter 6 based off of these questions. Write your prediction here. Begin reading chapter 6 in your head and answer questions as you read.

35. Warm up 34 Think about where we left off from The Great Gatsby. Write three sentences about what happened in chapter five.

36. Warm up 35 As we watch the movie, write down 3 things here that you notice. What is different about the movie? What is similar to the way you pictured it? Other observations?

37. Warm up 36 Look over your vocabulary words and choose 3 to draw a picture that represents the definition. Make sure you write the vocabulary word next to the picture. Turn in warm ups 29-36 and vocabulary homework when you finish this warm up.

39. Warm up 38 Write down the following words and definitions: Imagery- descriptive words or phrases that appeal to one or more of the five senses to help the reader imagine what is being described. Situational Irony: The contrast between what a reader or character expects and what actually happens. Personification: Giving human characteristics to inanimate objects (things that are not human)

40. Warm up 39 If you could change your age to any age today, which age would you choose and why? Three sentence minimum.

41. Warm up 40 Look over your gatsby study guide. Write down the question and answer here that you think you will have the most trouble with.

42. Warm up 41 How did the test go? What would you do differently next time to prepare? What could I do differently next time to better prepare you? Are there any review games that other teachers do that work well for you? If so, please explain the game here.

43. Warm up 42 What was the best part of your three day weekend? Three sentence minimum.
