2. Simple Sentences l Have one subject and one predicate The lion roared. l Can have a compound subject and/or compound predicate. The lions and tigers roared and fought. l Can also have adjectives and adverbs The mighty lions and tigers roared and fought constantly.

3. Compound Sentences l Combination of two simple sentences. The lion roared and the parrot squawked. l Two sentences connected by a BOYS FAN word: But, or, yet, so, for, and, nor l Adjectives and adverbs can be used

4. Complex Sentences l Like compound sentence, has two subjects. l Adds a subordinate conjunction, takes away the BOYS FAN word. After the lion roared, the parrot squawked. l Subordinate conjunctions include: when, if, since, before, while, although, even though, because, as, before, after, as soon as

5. Compound-Complex Sentences l Like a complex sentence, but adds another subject onto the independent clause in the sentence. After the lion roared, the parrot squawked, and the baby cried. l Clauses/commas can be switched around The parrot squawked and the baby cried after the lion roared.
