Anorexia Nervosa Causes: Biological- Genetic genes more susceptible. Genetic tendency for perfection Psychological- emotional characteristics, insecurities, extreme for perfection Environmental- Western culture emphasizes appearance with actors and models. Success= thin. Peer pressure.

Symptoms Restricted caloric intake Excessive Exericse Self- Esteem Issues Physical Symptoms: Extreme weight loss, fatigue, soft downy hair around face and body, thin appearance, dizziness. Emotional Behavior Symptoms: Refusal to eat, lie about eating, fear of weight gaining, depressed, use of diet pills or laxatives.

Bulimia Nervosa Bulimia is eating a lot of food in a short time then preventing weight gain by throwing up. Throwing up or using laxatives. Bulimia falls within each category, every age and gender. Desperate for weight loss an unhappy with body shape and size.

Signs Binge caused by diet, stress, or emotions. Going to the bathroom frequently. Using diet pills or laxatives, paired with excessive exercise. Swollen cheeks, scraped knuckles, clear teeth, broken blood vessels in the eyes. Depression, anxiety, substance abuse.

Prevention Talking to a counselor Gaining support from your family and friends Enter into a prevention program Try to look for the positive self worth

Treatment Hospitals if needed Restore body image Work with a counselor and a nutritionist Individual counseling Family counseling Treatment programs or facilities. Avoid Worldly Social scenes
