2 Day One: Tuesday, December 9, 2014 Quiet Question---Type Two Prompt: Working with your group members, you are going to use your notes from the Arab-Israeli Conflict Lesson Plan to complete the Major Issues Graphic Organizer. Ongoing Arab-Israeli Conflict Issues Statehood: Land Distribution and Borders----West Bank, Gaza Strip, OCT Jerusalem: Who should control---Jewish Quarter, Muslim Quarter, and Christian Quarter Refugees: Nakba---Palestinian Refugees and Refugee Camps---Recruiting Ground for Terrorists Settlements: Jewish Settlements in OCT The Wall: West Bank Barrier Water Rights: Due to the West Bank Barrier For each issue, identify the Palestinian Position and the Israeli Position. WE ARE NOT DOING THE POSSIBILITIES COLUMN. For the Proposed Solutions column, based upon all that we have learned about the conflict, what do you think is the fair solution to try to solve the issues?

3 Day One: Tuesday, December 9, 2014 Class: Of those issues, which do you think is the biggest stumbling block to peace and why? Have students share thoughts---pull from them the theme of Nationalism. Definitions of Nationalism?Examples of Nationalism? Class: The teacher is going to read aloud “The Tragic Life of a Street Vendor.” As you follow along, you should be using Active Reading Strategies.

6 Day One: Tuesday, December 9, 2014 Class: The teacher is going to begin the Arab Spring PowerPoint, and you are to take notes in the appropriate categories of the provided graphic organizer. Homework: Continue to follow the chunking for the Arab-Israeli Conflict Propaganda Poster.

7 Day Two: Wednesday, December 10, 2014 Class: The teacher is going to continue the Arab Spring PowerPoint Lecture, and you should continue to take notes in the graphic organizer. Homework: Continue to follow the chunking for the Arab-Israeli Conflict Propaganda Poster. Remember it is due in two class periods: Friday, December 12, 2014.

8 Day Three: Thursday, December 11, 2014 Class: The teacher is going to finish the Arab Spring PowerPoint Lecture, and you should finish taking notes in the graphic organizer. Individual: Now use the provided “Timeline of the Arab Spring” from the New York Times September 2013, and add information to the Results/Effects Category of the graphic organizer. Class: For the rest of the class, we are now going to watch the short documentary “How Facebook Changed The World: The Arab Spring Part One”. It was published on September 6, 2011 and has a running time of 15 minutes. Homework: Finish the Arab-Israeli Conflict Propaganda Poster. It is due the next class period.
