Desire to Learn (D2L) It starts with the Admissions process Students create a Net ID and password as part of the Admissions process after applying for a given semester This NET ID and password becomes their login information for D2L Tutorial Students are directed to a D2L tutorial via email once they have paid their enrollment deposit This tutorial gives students the basic knowledge to navigate D2L The Tabs Content Tab: Reading materials, Orientation slides/presentations/videos, Important Contact information, Student Success Guide, Academic Advising information Quizzes: Check for understanding type built within D2L Discussion: Still under development but a way for students to post questions and have other student’s help with answers (peers, orientation leaders, campus mentors, faculty)
13
Visual Zen Online Orientation available as an addition to the registration management system for an additional fee (fees based on your campus population) Upload content as text or videos (YouTube, etc.) Students complete modules Ability to insert test questions to assess students’ comprehension of the information
14
“Homegrown” Solutions Content built onto existing institution’s website Mostly text, video, and checklists Ordered according to time of cycle (or major topic themes) New platform built from scratch Advantage: Can be coded/designed to suit your exact needs Challenge: Requires technical expertise, time and money LaunchPad: Provides key info, social and Q&A in ‘gamified’ platform
