5 Mitigation and Prevention… What schools and districts can do to reduce or eliminate risk to life and property… Facilities Facility Use Protocols Chemical Safety Guides Site preparations Regular Building Inspections and Audits Safety, Supervision, Access and Separation Security Video Cameras and Monitoring Capability Identification Badges Hotline (TIPS) Campus Supervisors and School Resource Officer Alarm and Card Access System Threat Assessment protocols Culture and Climate Board Policies (weapons, bullying, etc.) Conduct Expectations for Students Strong Partnerships with Scottsbluff Police Department, 911 Emergency Comm Center, Fire Department and other City Services

8 Preparedness… A rapid, coordinated, effective response when a crisis occurs… Emergency Response Protocol (SRP) at District and Site Level Mental Health/Crisis Response Team Designated evacuation sites AED, First Aid and CPR Training Transportation – GPS, Video Camera, Emergency Drills, Check-Mate System, Training SPD cooperative planning and training Updated maps and floor plans circulated to emergency responders Standing School Safety and Security Task Force FEMA Incident Command System (Building and District Response Teams) Emergency Go-Bags Radio communication within and between schools and with all emergency providers

12 Response… A plan with clearly articulated roles and responsibilities, as well as training and practice… Practice drills in all schools in all types of emergency response – including simulations alongside emergency responders. Assigned roles (including descriptions) for all staff including back-up should principal be out of building. Ongoing training for 100% of staff and students. Community meetings and presentations. Information sharing through a variety of media. Recovery… Deal with the emotional impact of the crisis… Detailed reunification plans and tools. Crisis Team meetings and trainings. Structures in place to self-evaluate.
