We are tasked with achieving the following by 2020 Improve good outcomes in the Early Years Foundation Stage Increase the standards achieved at Key Stage 1 Reduce the vulnerable learners’ gap Increase the percentage of good and better early years settings Embed and integrate early help and prevention services so that there is a reduction in the numbers of children in need and those with a child protection plan, and increase the percentage supported through an early help programme to achieve a good outcome
12
Continue to develop collaborative working across services to support training in programmes that support parenting and build emotional resilience in children, young people and families Work with schools and Early Years settings to deliver a more focused approach to narrowing achievement gaps and achieve better outcomes for all vulnerable groups with a specific focus on children entitled to free school meals (FSM), those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Children Looked After (CLA). Recognising the best Early Years providers, schools, teachers and school leaders and using them effectively across the system to develop and disseminate best practice Supporting families’ enhanced involvement in their children’s learning, especially in the earliest years

Reminder… A few points – Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. 3.4 Child Protection: Having a statement about the settings use of mobile phones and camera’s does not prevent child abuse. Staff still need to have knowledge and the responsibility for the Safeguarding policy of the setting, including whistle blowing. Increasing accounts of inappropriate use. Highlight in your setting. Please ensure that your safeguarding policy covers the use of mobile phones and cameras in your setting

Why do we need thresholds Children need a document that supports clarity, basis for challenge Children and families need the right service in the right place at the right time to achieve better outcomes Children need a joined-up system that responds at every level of need Practitioners need to identify the level of need and which services could help in meeting their needs.

What we are aiming for Thresholds well known and understood Effective multi-agency partnerships in place An agreed inter-agency referral tool Effective use of Early Help Assessment (EHA)/CAF Consultation service to partners Chronologies (informing child’s journey) Step up and step down arrangements Senior managers regularly review the application of thresholds across agencies to ensure consistency Effective joint agency training Resources completely targeted Targeted commissioning of services CS
