ACT to SAT Transition AGC Cut Score Policy Review AGC Presentation 2 of 3 Tuesday, February 9, 2016 Lori Cook

Team Members Eric Mullen & Lori Cook, Enrollment Management, Co-Chairs Jason Schueller, Enrollment Center/Placement Testing Bill Faber & Lilly Anderson, Arts & Sciences Frank Conner, Psychology Andrea Hayes*, Mathematics Kim Olushola*, Vikki Cooper & Michelle Allen*, English Kelly Kozloski, College Success Center * Sub-Committee Chairs

Team Objectives 1.Review new SAT test to determine cut score thresholds for admission, and which students are required to take a placement test 2.Review new SAT data to determine if sub-scores could serve as placement data (and bypass Accuplacer for writing & reading placements – math will use ALEKS for all student placement regardless of SAT scores)

What we’ve learned so far: True validity testing will not be available until the new SAT has been administered and data analysis provided (tentatively scheduled for release in May 2016) Won’t be able to make decision on using sub scores for possible developmental course placement until after this time (this will be too late for Fall 2017 admission, which begins September 2016) Need to determine how we will use new test scores for admission for Fall 2017 (beginning September 2016) Revisit SAT data on concordance and validity to determine if it can be used as placement (for fall 2018)

SAT Update Regarding Scores: SAT will report 3 test scores in reading, writing & language, and math Scores will be on a 10-40 scale In May, SAT will provide college readiness ranges across these scales for each test score SAT will also provide concordance tables between new test and old SAT, and ACT (for composite score only)

Recommendation for AGC Vote: Provide Cut Score team the authority to review SAT scores, validity, and concordance findings (published May 2016) and determine cut scores for students who begin applying in September 2016 for fall 2017 admission

Proposed Changes/Timeline Phase 1 - Entering F17 (accepting applications 9/1/16) Students will have taken new SAT Cut Score team will develop SAT cut scores summer 2016 Those who do not meet cut scores will take Accuplacer for reading & writing placement, and take ALEKS for math placement Phase 2 - Entering F18 (accepting applications 9/1/17) Review concordance and validity to determine if sub-scores can be used for reading & writing placement. Bring recommendations to AGC in 15/16 (math will use ALEKS for placement)
