WHAT IS DNA? Deoxyribonucleic acid Nucleotides consist of 3 components Nitrogenous base Adenine Guanine Cytosine Thymine(present in DNA only) Uracil (present in RNA only) 5-carbon sugar which is called deoxyribose (found in DNA) and ribose (found in RNA). One or more phosphate groups

PURINE BASES & PYRIMIDINE BASES Adenine and guanine are purines. Purines are the larger of the two types of bases found in DNA The 9 atoms that make up the fused rings (5 carbon, 4 nitrogen) are numbered 1-9

PURINE BASES & PYRIMIDINE BASES Cytosine and thymine are pyrimidines The 6 stoms (4 carbon, 2 nitrogen) are numbered 1
