How we use wind to create power By- Ryan Schub,TJ Maldonado http://www.alliantenergykids.com/wcm/ groups/wcm_internet/@int/@aekids/do cuments/digitalmedia/mdaw/mdiy/~edi sp/022691.jpg http://s86.photobuck et.com/user/mott910/ media/Sunset_Wind _Power.jpg.html

A wind turbine is powered by the wind which makes it renewable source of energy. Wind Turbines are measured at 328 feet tall, which is great because wind is stronger higher up and when the propeller spins, It turns the rotor and the rotor spins the main shaft which turns a generator to create electricity. How it works

How it works continued http://www.cleanenergyr esourceteams.org/sites/d efault/files/windxcel_0.jp g

Zones where wind turbines are built The plains On the ocean http://www.ucsusa.org/sites/default/files/legacy/assets /images/ce/US-wind-power-capacity-by-state- 2012_AWEA.jpg http://cache4.asset-cache.net/gc/200416688-001-off-shore- wind-turbines- gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=7D2jF3KRV3sTkS9 vxbiROXHOzt4J3phzDYU2fX%2FmAe7nzMYwMTLu5ijeQSZL k%2FKAAJltfTmrViftkL%2BJw58zWA%3D%3D http://s.hswstatic.com/gif/future-wind- turbine.jpg

Recovery And Releases Exhausted air generates electricity Energy generated is converted to compressed air Stored in large above ground tanks Energy is passed through large distribution lines underground http://www.azocleantech.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=488

How this source of energy is used today Wind power can be converted into mechanical power. Then the mechanical power is used for many activities one activity is pumping water out of a pond or pool. Wind energy is a clean, renewable form of energy that uses virtually no water and pumps billions of dollars into our economy every year.

Advantages & Disadvantages Advantages 500 homes get powered by one turbine No air or water pollution is given out from the turbines Many people find wind farms interesting Save about $250,000 per year Disadvantages Strength of wind is not constant Noise Hard to transport 128 million dollars invested in wind energy

Economic impacts Cost lower than the cost of newer conventional sources The price of American wind power has declined more than 90% since 1980 In Australia wind power is cheaper than coal and natural gasses By September 2014, there were more than 13,000 megawatts of new generating capacity under construction in the United States

Environmental impact of wind power The impact of wind turbines on wildlife, most notably on birds and bats There is no water impact associated with the operation of wind turbines Like all structures over 200 feet high, have white or red lights for aviation safety Sound and visual impact are the two main public health and community concerns

Facts Windmills have been around since 2000 B.C First developed in China and Persia Wind power is the fastest growing source for electricity in the world There is enough on-shore wind to power the United states 10 times over 5% of india's power is from wind power
