4  Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.  Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.  Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.  Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.  Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.  Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction. National Standards for Physical Education

5 Personal Objectives:  Students will experience improvement in overall health and fitness.  Students will practice acquired health knowledge outside of the curriculum by applying it to their activities of daily living.  Students will have a broad understanding of the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork within sport and apply it to other competitive situations.  Students will demonstrate the ability to develop effective aerobic and anaerobic fitness programs for general health and sport specific settings.  Students will obtain knowledge and understanding on a wide breadth of sport activities, which will allow them to become effective participants in these activities.

6 Lifetime Fitness Curriculum Layout  1 st Trimester- Camaraderie, Safety, Aerobic Fitness, General Nutrition  2 nd Trimester- Weight Training/Program Design  3 rd Trimester- Lifetime/Team Sports

7 1 st Trimester  12 Weeks: –4 weeks Teamwork and Cooperation –2 weeks First Aid/CPR Certification –2 weeks Swimming/Water Sports –2 weeks Aerobic Fitness –2 weeks Nutritional Fitness Considerations

8 TRI #1  Teamwork and Cooperation  Goals: –Provide various activities that allow for social interaction between students. –Create group cohesion throughout the entirety of the curriculum. –Teach students to work effectively with students of various backgrounds and personalities.

9 Adams Campus Challenge Course This would serve as the culmination of the teamwork and cooperation portion of the curriculum.

10 TRI #1  First Aid/CPR Certification  Goals: –To provide students with the knowledge and ability to handle potential problems that may arise in an active situations. –To obtain important certifications that are required in many work and exercise environments. –To expand students resumes.

11 TRI #1  Swimming/Water Sports  Goals: –To teach or refresh swimming and lifesaving techniques in water environments. –To create an understanding of swimming as a mode of aerobic exercise. –To introduce potential water sports to students.

12 TRI # 1  Aerobic Fitness  Goals: –To provide students with the knowledge of cardiovascular benefits of aerobic activity. –To introduce various aerobic modes of fitness training. –To allow students to participate in vigorous aerobic activities.

13 TRI #1  Nutrition  Goals: –To teach students healthy eating habits. –To provide students with a general understanding of energy balance. –To introduce students to the application of ergogenic aids (nutritional supplements) and their potential benefits in regards to various physical activities.

14 Grocery Store Field Trip  Culmination of nutritional portion of the curriculum.  “What” and “What Not” to consume as part of a healthy diet.

15 2 nd Trimester  12 Weeks: –2 weeks Weight Training Introduction –1 week Warm-Up/Flexibility Techniques –1 week Plyometric/CoreTraining –1 week Upper Body Lifts –1 week Lower Body Lifts –6 weeks Program Design Principles/Implementation

16 TRI #2  Weight Training Introduction  Goals: –To teach students the concepts of weight training safety and gym etiquette. –To illustrate the benefits of weight bearing exercise on the muscular/skeletal system and overall metabolism. –To provide students with basic information on general anatomy and movement patterns (biomechanics) as applied to weight training. –To provide students with knowledge of all facets of effective anaerobic training. –To introduce students to the various specific program design possibilities for a variety of training goals. –To allow students to design and implement their own personal programs based on their individual training goals.

17 TRI #2 Modes of Weight Training:  General Lifting  Olympic Lifting  Power Lifting

18 TRI #2  Program Design Goals: –To make students understand the importance of goal setting as it applies to weight training. –To aid students and provide them with the ability to create their own training regimens. –To teach students the importance of journaling workouts as a tool for effective program design. –To make students accountable for personal health.

19 3 rd Trimester  12 Weeks: –2 weeks Jogging/Running- 5K, 10K, and Marathon Running –2 weeks Tennis- Singles/Doubles –2 weeks Golf –2 weeks Various Martial Arts. –2 weeks Basketball –2 weeks Soccer

20 TRI #3  Lifetime/Team Fitness Goals:  Goals: –To provide physical activity through teaching sports skill and game-play. –To teach students a wide scope of lifetime activities that could be performed outside of the academic setting. –To provide a competitive atmosphere through participating in team sport game-play.

21 ASSESMENT  TEAMWORK REFLECTION –To assess STANDARD #6: –2-3 Page summary/reflection on the importance of teamwork and cooperation in a variety of settings.  LIFETIME FITNESS/HEALTH JOURNAL –To asses STANDARD #3: (EXAMPLE) –Logs class and outside activities. –Graded via a rubric based on neatness and detail.
