Writing a Resume

Things to Include Your name Contact Information- definitely email and phone, address is optional

Things to Include Objective- what you hope to accomplish with your job search Brief Description- Prior Experience- List the title, when you worked there, and specific accomplishments while there

Things to Include Education- list where you went to school, during what years, and the degree you earned (or anticipated graduation date) Skills/Accomplishments- any other bragging rights that might help you with the job you are applying for References- a person who will comment on the qualifications, work ethic, personal qualities, and work-related aspects of another person’s character.

Letters of Recommendation - A letter describing someone’s qualities and abilities, written by someone who worked with them previously, and sent to a possible new employer. Job, Scholarships, Programs (Education), Internships etc. Assignment – Ask for TWO letters of recommendation. Electronic copies. Will be due at the end of the UNIT! Things to Include

Formatting Should look professional Put dates in chronological order Can have heading, but should not have borders Simple, easy-to-read font Text should not be too large or too small Use normal size paper in a neutral color

Finally Proofread Correct grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation. 1 Page in length.

Online Resume Email (attachment) Format (Check your format) Software Program (Keywords) Ex. Accounting – spreadsheets, financial statements, and net profit.

Resume Assignment Your partner and you will take on the role of job search firm. You have the task of trying to help people write resumes to increase their chances of being interviewed for jobs. You will need to: Critique the Resumes in the packet. List the Pros and Cons of each Resume and include a brief 3 to 5 sentence summary of how each resume could be improved on. Pick which resume you feel is the most complete and explain why you came to that conclusion.
