4. Physical Education Physical Education Class Expectations: To be prepared for class participation: Change of workout attire which may consist of school appropriate shorts, sweatpants, athletic shoes, and t-shirt suitable for activity (no denim please); Appropriate athletic shoes and socks that provide for safety in specified activity; Jewelry, except for medical and religious items, should be removed to prevent possible injury; Athletic attire is available for purchase for $5.00 for shirt and $10.00 for shorts Student athletes are not to wear school assigned athletic team uniforms and/or gear. Locker Room Expectations: Locker Locks – Locks will be provided by Brentsville District High School. If a lock is lost, “stolen”, missing, or damaged at any point of the school year, the student(s) are responsible to pay $5.00 for the lock. Students are strongly encouraged to leave ALL valuables either at home or in their hall lockers. This includes purses, books, calculators, jewelry etc.. Make sure they get locked during and after use because they will get stolen or lost when they are left hanging or unfastened. We recommend leaving book bags in their main locker and not bring bags and valuables into the locker room. If you do, however, you must lock them up inside a locker. Leave all clothing, bags, purses, wallets, etc locked safely in a locker. The PE department cannot be responsible for lost or damaged items. Team bags may be put in the team room which will remain locked from 7:15-1:50. No person will be let in for any reason between those times. Please plan ahead.

5. Drivers Education Classroom Driver Education is provided for free to all students in the tenth grade health and physical education (HPE II). 36 hours. – Sept 3-Oct 11 and Nov 18-Dec 20 Behind-the-Wheel is offered after school. The cost is $240.00 to BDHS. Sign-up sheets will be available from HPE II and advanced PE teachers. We will run the program late September through the end of school. Summer school sessions will also be available.

6. Classroom Drivers’ Education A student must meet the following Virginia Driving code requirements to successfully complete the classroom phase of Driver Education instruction: Attend and successfully complete (with a passing grade) a minimum of 36 hours of classroom instruction; During the school year in which the student participates in classroom instruction, the student and parent are required to attend a 90 minute presentation*. The legislative requirement is for participation in a minimum 90 minute program; therefore, no one will be admitted after the presentation has started and the doors have been closed (Promptly at 7:00pm). 7. Behind the Wheel After school only 2:30-4:30 Costs $240.00. Checks to BDHS Student must have valid permit Applications are available from PE teacher Students will be taken out in groups of 4-6 for 2 days on the range and then 2 at a time for 5 days on the road. The final day includes the road test. Payment of $240.00 is due on the first day of Range and road. We will drive through early June Students with late eligibility dates may also be interested in summer school road and range here at Brentsville. Applications will be available in May.

8. Licensing Obtaining a Learners Permit: An applicant must be at least 15 years and 6 months old and under the age of 18. The learner’s permit is obtained at a Department of Motor Vehicles customer service center after fulfilling several requirements; Details about the application and licensing process, please go to DMVnow.com.DMVnow.com Receiving a 180 Day Provisional License: A student must meet the following criteria to receive their 180 day PDL-180 Provisional License: Be at least 16 years and 3 months old; Have held a learner’s permit for nine months; Successfully complete a state-approved driver education classroom course and a behind the wheel road and range program with minimum in-car mileage requirement; Parent has signed the PPF-03 permission form certifying child is properly insured and has driven a motor vehicle for 45 hours, at least 15 of which were after sunset; Parent has submitted the 45-hour driving log; Both a parent and the student must attend a mandatory 90 minute program in order for the student to complete their classroom instruction.
