Why use news clip to teach? Students are often familiar with the story Short introduction to a theme Learn English names of people & groups Many students are visual learners Subtitles Hear different accents Variety (not just written news articles)

Before watching Ask students what they know. Show class the list of clips. They choose. Students present clip before watching. Guess vocabulary based on headline.

Critical Thinking Questions Would your parents have different opinions to you? Why? Would men and women have a different opinion of this story? Is there a limit to how much the government can do to improve this situation? How will people find out about this story in 100 years time? Who would disagree with Mike Kilburn? How are you similar to Roy Tam? Is this story specific to Hong Kong or do similar things happen in other places? What sources were used in this story? Do you trust them? Who benefits/loses from the story?
