2. CHLAMYDIA MOST COMMON STI
caused by the bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis
Symptoms:
-Most women show NO symptoms. Some may have slight vaginal discharge, pain on urination, pain during sex; frequent urination. Most men show symptoms.
-Discharge or itchy feeling in the penis; mild pain on urination; infection of anus or throat.

3. CHLAMYDIA
Women - if untreated: - Infertility; infected cervix; pelvic pain; pelvic inflammatory disease; ectopic pregnancy, arthritis.
Men - if untreated: - Infertility; arthritis; eye
infections; urinary infections.
Treatment: (antibiotics)

4. GONORRHEA
Treatable bacterial infection of the penis, vagina or anus that can cause pain, or burning feeling as well as a pus-like discharge.
Also known as "the clap".
Symptoms: - Feel fatigued and have a fever. - Painful blisters itch, redden the skin, form into groups and ulcerate. - Ulcers crust and may heal with scarring

5. GONORRHEA
Spread through unprotected anal, oral or vaginal sex. Also spread through direct skin-to-skin
If left untreated: - The virus hides in nerve endings and reoccurs
Treatment: - Yes (Acyclovir..but no cure)

6. Hepatitis B Can be prevented with a vaccine!
Spread: - unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex
- maternal blood to newborns
- sharing items with blood (i.e. razors, toothbrushes, instruments, needles)
If left untreated: - Liver disease and failure - Cancer of the liver - Death
Treatment: - Yes (rest, personal hygiene)
No Cure
A liver infection caused by a virus.
left untreated can lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer.
There are more than four types. A and B are the most common.
Symptoms:
-Sudden flu-like illness with fatigue, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, fever - Dark urine and jaundice 10% of carriers can spread the disease

7. HERPES
A recurrent skin condition that can cause skin irritations in the genital region (anus, vagina, penis).
Symptoms:
- Many people feel fatigued, and have a fever. - Painful blisters itch, redden the skin, form into groups and ulcerate. - Ulcers crust and may heal with scarring
Spread through unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex. Also through direct skin-to-skin contact.
Treatment: - Yes (Acyclovir - no cure)
No cure

8. CRABS Also known as pediculosis pubis
crabs are parasites or bugs that live on the pubic hair in the genital area
Symptoms:
- Intense itching in the genital hair area. - Produce small red bumps
Spread through vaginal sex, protected or not
and direct touch skin-to-skin
Treatment: - Yes (special soap - Quell)
There is a cure

9. HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS/GENITAL WARTS
(HPV) is a virus that affects the skin in the genital area, as well as a female's cervix.
Symptoms can be in the form of
-wart-like growths
-or abnormal cell changes.
Spread through unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex.
If left untreated: - Invasive cervical cancer and bladder cancers - Infected women must have yearly PAP tests - May be passed to infants
Treatment:
- Yes (cauterization, surgery, medical)
No Cure

10. CHANCROID A treatable bacterial infection that causes painful sores.
Chancroid is a highly contagious yet curable sexually transmitted disease (STD)
caused by the bacteria Haemophilus Ducreyi
Chancroid causes ulcers, usually of the genitals.

11. SYPHILIS Also known as "syph".
A treatable bacterial infection that can spread throughout the body and affect the heart, brain, nerves.
Symptoms: -Early stages shows painless sores, swollen glands and skin rashes.
-Sores may be inside the vagina or anus and go unnoticed. -Stage 2: Rashes, new sores, flu-like symptoms, swollen glands, brain infection

12. SYPHILIS
Spread: By contact with infected blood, semen, vaginal fluids or pus. (ex. - direct touch,unprotected sex, kissing, injecting blood (needle sharing)
If left untreated: - Skin, bone, heart disease - Brain disease - Dementia - Blindness if left untreated
Treatment: - Yes (antibiotics)
Sex contacts must be examined
There is a cure

13. PELVIS INFLAMMATORY DISEASE (PID)
An infection of the female reproductive organs by chlamydia, gonorrhea or other bacteria.
Symptoms:
Some women have no symptoms.
Others have pain in the lower abdomen, fever, smelly vaginal discharge, irregular bleeding or pain during intercourse.
Treatment:
Early treatment is important – waiting too long increases the risk of infertility.
Antibiotics can cure PID.

14. AIDS Symptoms: Spread:
-HIV Stage (1- 14 years) - Flu-like symptoms may occur early or late - Most look and feel well for years - Infectious carrier - Skin & lung infections common in later years
25% of infants born to HIV mothers will be infected
Spread:
-Contact with infected blood, semen, vaginal fluids mainly by unprotected sex and needle sharing.
If left untreated: - Immune system destroyed - AIDS defining illnesses fatal (pneumonias, cancer, dementia, wasting, cancer of the cervix)
Treatment: - Yes - early treatment is best
No cure
