INTRODUCTION The 10 week, PROPOSAL WRITING AND FUND RAISING ONLINE TRAINING COURSE is meant for those participants whose busy work schedules or other logistical constraints may not avail them time to attend the open training normally conducted in 3-5 day workshops. While the open workshop format allows for a one to one sharing of information and feedback between the participant and the trainers, the online format, on the other hand, provides the trainee with the leeway to engage the trainer exclusively from his/her personal work perspectives which the limitations of a workshop normally curtails.

Introduction cont’d This course normally takes 10 weeks to complete. However, this duration may be reduced or escalated upwards depending on the availability of the trainee to read the materials and submit his/her assignments on time. After the successful completion of the course, you will be awarded with a sealed certificate with grading in the following order:  80-100 Distinction  65-79 Upper Credit  50-64 Credit  40-49 Pass

COURSE CONTENT Below you will find course content, which has been broken down into topics and their objectives for each week. After you read the materials and email back to us for review, you will expect to hear from us within 48 hours. It is our expectation that you will engage us as much as possible especially in clearing any grey areas you may have in relation to proposal writing and fund raising.

NEED FOR THE COURSE  Donor resources are usually limited and in great demand from competing needs.  Consequently, donors have to decide where best to use these diminishing resources in terms of geographical area, region, problem issue or challenge.  This means that your organization needs to contextualize your project in such a way that you show that the problem or opportunity being addressed fits the donor concerns, that tackling the problem or using the opportunity in the area or areas defined in the project is important, and that the potential benefits to the targeted beneficiaries are significant and sustainable to fit within the broader aim of the project.

NEED FOR THE COURSE-CNT’D  When writing project proposals for purposes of accessing donor funds, many writers confuse it with thesis writing and miss out on donor funding. This training will equip you with skills on the nature, extent and quality of information you need to provide the donor with.  It will be appreciated that Proposal Writing & Fund raising activities form the backbone of any development organization; hence, for sustainable strategies, organizations must enhance their skills and capacity on fundraising and proposal writing by equipping their key members of staff with the emerging and modern trends in Proposal Writing & Fund raising today.

Course objectives  OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To increase access to diverse sources of donor funds through the upgrade of key competencies in proposal writing and fund raising among key personnel in NGOs, INGOs, FBOs, County governments, colleges and universities, research institutions and other professionals in the development sector.  From the foregoing, this training aims at enhancing your performance outcomes through the systematic movement and upgrade of your proposal writing and fund raising skills through the four levels of competence, thus;

Course objectives-Cnt’d  Unconscious Incompetence---I don’t know that I don’t know  Conscious Incompetence---I know (that) I don’t know  Conscious Competence---I know (that) I know—e.g. when you first learnt driving a car..  Unconscious Competence---I know it so well that I don’t need memorizing it to perform it well/I know it so well I can now teach/train another person on it!

We do assume that this process will enable you to take your capacity in proposal writing and fund raising to this level …… (iv). If we do this, we then, in our view, will have achieved our objective! It is our hope that through this training, you will gain skill(s) which will impact and positively influence your resource mobilization perspectives to produce more and better deliverables, and in a timely manner for your organization!
