6 Background Audits are a nationally consistent approach to check compliance with registration standards help ensure standards are being met, and are an important part of protecting the public. 6

7 When do audits happen? AHPRA has a rolling program of audits of random samples of practitioners from all professions throughout the year If you are selected for audit, you will receive an audit notice in the mail Don’t wait for the audit notice – be prepared 7

8 What audit means for you 8

9 Your declarations Each time you renew your registration you make a declaration as to whether you have (or have not) met some or all of the registration standards. You will be audited against your self-declarations made at your previous registration renewal. The audit requires you to provide further information to support your declarations for the previous registration period. 9

10 Evidence examples PII –Public employees are covered by the state or territory insurance arrangements –Private practitioners need to provide copy of certificate of currency RoP –Employment agreements, contract for service, letter of employment 10

11 11 Evidence examples cont. CPD –Minimum 60 hours of CPD activities over three year cycle, with a minimum of 10 hours in any one year –Two categories: 1.Substantive – learning primarily directed to practice or expansion of practice 2.General – sufficient nexus to learning in healthcare environment

12 12 Evidence examples cont. Logbook –Sample logbook available on Board website. Include: details of activity reflection on CPD activity summary of learning outcomes further learning

13 What to do if selected for audit 1.Read the audit notice and attached checklist carefully. 2.Refer to the Board’s website for additional information. 3.Take action 13

14 Audit process If selected for audit, you will receive an audit notice in the mail. You have 4 weeks to provide the requested information. AHPRA will assess your submission against the declaration made in your last registration renewal. AHPRA may request further information. Cases of non-compliance may be provided to the Board (or its delegate) for decision. You will be advised by letter of your audit outcome. 14

15 Audit outcomes Possible outcomes may include: you meet the requirements of the audit and no further action is required request for further information to satisfy the audit renewal of registration granted with conditions, and/or any action deemed appropriate by the applicable board. 15

16 Plan ahead Audits can happen at any time Familiarise yourself with the standards If selected for audit, you will receive an audit notice letter – read it carefully 16

17 Keeping good records Documents that show you are meeting the registration standard should be easy to access. Regularly check you have kept evidence that is current and applicable to each of the standards that might be audited. Keep records safe and for the required time period 17
