Purpose of Standards and Role of SPTF Role of SPTF Secretariat: Promotion and Learning Promote adoption of the Universal Standards by the MF industry Share learning about the adoption of good practices Encourage industry initiatives and stakeholders to align with the Standards Role of other stakeholders: Evaluate compliance MIX is a platform to be transparent about practice Audit and Rating tools will soon be available to evaluate compliance with the Standards Social Investors are incorporating the Standards into their due diligence processes

Implementation: The Network Level Global Standards Awareness-Raising Campaign for Networks Two core objectives: 1.Build awareness and commitment to the Standards among MFIs on a large scale. 2.Identify those MFIs that are ready to implement the Essential Practices of the Standards.

Standards Implementation Fund for Networks: 1.Document learning and experience about innovative ways to implement the Essential Practices of the Standards. 2.Support each of their members to fully or partially implement the Essential Practices in at least two sections of the Standards. Implementation: The Investor Level 1. ALINUS - Aligning Investor Due Diligence and Monitoring Practices with Universal Standards 2. Reasonable Covenants Group developed the “Lenders’ Guidelines for Setting Covenants in Support of Responsible Microfinance” 3. AvOID Overindebtedness developed the “Microfinance Investment Managers’ Guidelines on OI” 4. SPTF and Principles for Investors in Inclusive Finance working group on Balanced Returns Three Balanced Return Frameworks available: –Deutsche Bank –Triple Jump –Grassroots Capital

15 MFIs shared practical experience though the Implementation Series 21 Organizations formally beta tested all 99 Essential Practices to evaluate three main questions: 1. What does it take to conduct an assessment? 2. What is level of compliance? 3.Are the Universal Standards relevant and understandable ? Implementation: The MFI Level MFIs taking part in this exercise included: ASKI, Philippines Contactar, Colombia ESAF, India Finance Trust, Uganda FINCA Honduras, Honduras FINCA Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyzstan FINCA Zambia, Zambia Fundacion Delamujer, Colombia Genesis Empresarial, Guatemala Grameen Koota, India Mibanco, Peru OISL, Ghana Pro Mujer (HQ level) Pro Mujer Nicaragua SEF, South Africa Sogesol, Haiti Ujjivan, India VisionFund AzerCredit, Azerbaijan VisionFund Cambodia, Cambodia VisionFund Nicaragua, Nicaragua VisionFund Zambia, Zambia

Are you MFI that has evaluated your social performance practices against the standards? Are you a network engaged in the Universal Standards Awareness-Raising campaign or Implementation project? Are you an investor that uses the Universal Standards to understand your investees social performance? Have you used any SPTF Communications Materials about the Standards, attended a session of the Universal Standards Implementation Series, downloaded documents from the Resource Center?
