Mission, Vision, Objectives The Inter-Association Leadership Education Collaborative (ILEC) brings together associations in higher education dedicated to the work of leadership education for shared initiatives, research, and resource development. Vision The Inter-Association Leadership Education Collaborative (ILEC) aspires to promote transorganizational strategic thinking to advance leadership education and development in higher education. Objectives - Developing and advocating for holistic understanding of leadership education; - Fostering meaningful dialogue and collaborations among organizations; - Identifying, synthesizing and advancing quality resources for leadership educators in higher education; - Tracking trends and addressing voids in professional programs, services, and resources; - Shaping the narrative of leadership education for the future.

The Conversation Internal Benchmarking Purpose To compare the practices of administrative units within member organizations Framing Questions 1. What are we doing in terms of leadership programs and services? 2.What programs and services are we not doing/offering that we should be? 3. What recommendations do we have for our associations to address leadership education and their members' needs? Competitive Benchmarking Purpose To compare the practices of member organizations with those of other organizations and institutions of higher education Framing Questions 1. What are other higher education professional associations, as well as colleges and universities, doing in terms of leadership education programs and services? 2. What recommendations do we have for ILEC and our associations to enhance leadership education based on what we learned? Functional Benchmarking Purpose To make comparisons between member organizations and organizations outside of higher education Framing Questions 1. What are other organizations outside of higher education doing in terms of leadership education programs and services? 2. What recommendations do we have for ILEC and our associations that can enhance leadership education based on what we learned?

The Outcomes Initiative #1: Develop a common membership survey across all ILEC associations to inform program development, collaborations, future projects, and initiatives. Initiative #2: Create a central internet web space for ILEC. Initiative #3: Restart the conversation about assessment/ evaluation criteria for leadership educators. Internal Benchmarking Initiative #1: Establish pre-conference/general body meetings to spread awareness of ILEC goals and initiatives. Initiative #2: Design and facilitate writing workshops that improve the efficacy of leadership educators. Initiative #3: Work collaboratively on the review and updating of the CAS Standards for leadership education programs. Initiative #4: Produce a document paralleling Leadership Reconsidered. Competitive Benchmarking Initiative #1: Conduct and synthesize the results of a qualitative benchmarking interview study with national and international organizations and agencies to enhance leadership education in higher education. ILEC Post-Summit Work What’s Next? Pre-Conference Workshop at ALE focusing on writing for professionals in leadership education Multi-association survey of leadership educators Analysis of non-higher education organizations and their work in the area of leadership education June 2015 Summit: – Team leaders for each of the benchmarking projects will present findings from their yearlong benchmarking work – Through a consensus process the ILEC collaborative will develop and market benchmarking findings to each of the national organizations – ILEC members will advocate on behalf of an agenda for action by each of the supporting national organizations.
