Essex School for the Gifted has been a unique one-week residential opportunity for Ohio’s top high school students to broaden their vision of the future. Dr. Essex believed that “young people who display leadership potential deserve the opportunity to explore their abilities with the guidance of adults who have become outstanding in their fields, and through the sharing of ideas with other young leaders.”

www.ssco.org/essex Martin W. Essex School for the Gifted The School begins on Sunday with orientation activities and an opening banquet. Each weekday, Monday through Friday, is devoted to a general academic discipline, with activities, workshops, and sessions relating to a central theme. A commencement ceremony and series of student presentations culminate the School on Saturday. School Overview

Essex School for the Gifted Marketing and Recruitment In an effort to increase submission of applications from underrepresented populations and regions, program staff will employ a comprehensive marketing plan that includes intensive recruitment efforts. We will collaborate with the following: Educational Service Centers Urban-8 District Gifted Coordinators Ohio Association for Gifted Children

Essex School for the Gifted Marketing and Recruitment We will work in cooperation with school district personnel such as gifted coordinators and guidance counselors to conduct regional information meetings. Flyers will be distributed throughout the state. All printed material will reference the Essex School website.

Essex School for the Gifted Application: Eligibility Requirements Ohio resident Rising senior for the 2008-2009 school year Meet criteria for identification as gifted (Ohio Administrative Code 3301-51-15) A superintendent is permitted to forward one application for each 10,000 ADM, or fraction thereof, in the school district’s jurisdiction.

www.ssco.org/essex Martin W. Essex School for the Gifted Application: Revisions The composition prompts and teacher recommendation forms are being revised currently. All parts of the application will be available for online completion. The district liaison will be responsible for gathering all completed application materials and forwarding materials to the Essex School Program Coordinator.
