Goal: The KCTCS President will actively engage the KCTCS faculty and staff in re-imagining the future of KCTCS as the nation’s premier community and technical college system. The implementation of these engagement activities will support the ongoing KCTCS Transformation and the achievement of the goals, performance measures, and targets outlined in the KCTCS Strategic Plan 2010-16 and the three KCTCS mission areas of: Workforce Education Transfer Education College and Workforce Readiness KCTCS PRESIDENT’S LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE 2012-13

Target Measurement: President McCall will: Visit each KCTCS college to engage faculty and staff in a dialogue about their aspirations and perceptions of KCTCS as the “premier” system in the nation. Involve KCTCS faculty and staff in defining KCTCS as the nation’s premier community and technical college system based on the following guiding principles that were developed by the KCTCS President’s Leadership Team in May 2012: Student Success Shared Vision Innovation Continuous Improvement Report a summary of the input received from the interactions and dialogue with faculty and staff to every KCTCS employee to serve as a guide for moving forward with KCTCS Transformation and beyond. ENGAGEMENT PROCESS Ensures the intentional inclusion, involvement and empowerment of impacted stakeholders in the design, implementation, and sustainment of transformative initiatives. Leads to defining and designing our future state Identifies possible scenarios to act upon moving forward Asks “What is the best possible version of our future, based upon our mission and values, and what changes should we make to get there?” KCTCS PRESIDENT’S LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE 2012-13

Engagement Activities Prior to College Visits ANSWERING QUESTIONS FROM PRESIDENT MCCALL Prior to President McCall’s visit, college faculty and staff were presented with a set of questions to answer prior to the college visit ASKING QUESTIONS OF PRESIDENT MCCALL Two weeks prior to college visit, an electronic survey was sent to college faculty and staff to elicit questions of President McCall. COLLEGE VISIT FORMAT COORDINATION AND LOGISTICS: A Single Point of Contact (POC) at each college was designated to coordinate the agenda, schedule, and activities for President McCall’s visit. A checklist was provided to assist in planning. GREETERS AND ESCORTS: College students, faculty, and/or staff were selected to serve as greeters and escorts from one area of the campus to another SETTINGS: President McCall visited classrooms, labs, and/or offices where faculty, staff, and/or students were actively involved in transformation activities or where examples of best practices could be demonstrated. RECORDER: The college designated someone to attend each session to collect feedback/input received from faculty, staff, and students. KCTCS PRESIDENT’S LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE 2012-13

COMMUNICATIONS AND PROMOTION A Transformation Communications Manager was designated by each College President to: Communicate and promote the visit prior to President McCall’s arrival. Ensure consistent messaging and use of various communication tools that were provided in advance. Develop a communications plan that included the use of various channels (i.e. Facebook, Twitter)s, a college Transformation site on ThePoint, emails, etc. Assist college president in communicating to employees and completing the “Pre-Visit Q&A” processes using an electronic survey instrument Arrange for photography and collect captions during the visit. TARGET MEASUREMENT #3 PROCESS The feedback received from faculty and staff was recorded, compiled and summarized Photos and videos were taken to share with KCTCS faculty and staff. A written report is being compiled for distribution to all KCTCS faculty staff in early October 2013. A website is bring developed to capture all of the activities, input, and data associated with the college visits and to address/answer the questions that were asked by faculty and staff during the tour.
