10 www.egi.eu EGI-InSPIRE RI-261323 Summary / Conclusions Funding Agencies −Research and tool development for project purposes no longer enough – must demonstrate that what is created has external or persistent value (i.e. societal and economic impact) −Your job is to innovate and produce excellent science, so need to create relationships and partnerships EGI in a unique position to facilitate value chain from research to industry What could be done: −Joint technical development (e.g. user interfaces; data applications) −Pre-commercial prototyping (e.g. SMEs don’t have money to invest in concepts, feasibility tests raise market potential) −Increased visibility/Network effect reaching a wider audience through promotional agreements −Exploitation of scientific data for social/economic value in the EU If there is value generation there are revenue streams = increased exploitation of scientific results −Puts you/us in better positioning for H2020 and national funding 21/05/2014 10 EGI CF’14 – Helsinki 21 May 2014
