What do Microbiologists do?  A microbiologist is a scientist who studies organisms called microbes, which can take the form of bacteria, viruses, or fungi. This person is trained to study these microbes in depth. He or she must be familiar with the microbes' environments, how they live, and the effect they have on the world around them.

Preparing a career on Microbiology  Microbiology is a diverse discipline with almost limitless applications in health, industry, biotechnology, environmental science, and basic research. With the increase in emerging infectious disease and antibiotic resistance, the threat of bioterrorism, the rapid advances in biotechnology, and numerous environmental problems, microbiologists are in higher demand than ever.

Outlooks in Microbiology future  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of all biological scientists, including microbiologists, was expected to increase much faster than average between 2008 and 2018, at a rate of 21%. This expected increase was due to the growth of the biotechnology industry and growing environmental concerns. If you are interested in basic research, you may face more competition when seeking employment than those who are interested in applied research. You are likely to enjoy job stability, even in economic turndowns, since microbiologists and other biological scientists are often involved in long-term research projects.

Best Colleges/Salary  #1Harvard University Boston, MA  #2 Stanford University Stanford, CA  #3 University of California— Berkeley Berkeley, CA The median expected salary for a typical Microbiologist I in the United States is $41,895. This basic market pricing report was prepared using our Certified Compensation Professionals' analysis of survey data collected from thousands of HR departments at employers of all sizes, industries and geographies.

Famous Microbiologists/Interesting facts about Microbiology  Ferdinand J Cohn published an early classification of bacteria (genus name Bacillus) for the first time in 1875.  Ilya Ilich Metchnikoff received the Nobel Prize in 1908 with Ehrlich, for demonstrating phagocytosis - the consumption of foreign particles and bacteria by the body's own antibodies. Fun facts:  There are 10 times more bacteria in the average human’s digestive system than there are cells in the entire body. This is approximately 1kg of bacteria.  There are more microbes on one person’s hand than there are people on the planet.  Most microbes do not cause disease - less than 5% do.

Microbiology  Why is Microbiology important?  Is Microbiology a good major?  Which are the best colleges in Microbiology?

Microbiology  Microbiology is a great career in which you get to know diseases and how to treat with them, also observe several reactions of bacteria's and microbes and look for a way to stop them helping the scientific world make progress.
