Thesis Statement Help! I need help with my most important sentence!

Parts of a Five Paragraph Essay 1)Introduction – This is the first paragraph of your paper and often the most important. 2)Body – In these paragraphs, you put the evidence that supports your Thesis statement. 3)Conclusion – In this paragraph, you will summarize the material presented throughout the paper and restate your original Thesis Statement.

Introduction paragraph This paragraph is used to introduce your writing topic. For example: The history of public education and how it applies today. The major parts of the introduction include: 1)The Lead-In/Hook 2)The Thesis Statement

The Lead-In/Hook The Lead-In/Hook is a very general statement that simply introduces the subject (topic) of the essay. This can be accomplished by using a question, quote, or an interesting fact.

Thesis Statement What is a thesis statement? A thesis statement declares what you believe and what you intend to prove. For example: Public education is a positive thing in any community because it (1)helps people socialize within their community, (2)it helps them gain an education, and (3)it helps them prepare for higher learning.

Provides Focus! A thesis statement focuses your ideas into one or two sentences. It should present the topic of your paper and also make a comment about your position in relation to the topic. Your thesis statement should tell your reader what the paper is about and also help guide your writing and keep you (and your reader) focused on topic.

What do you need? Should be specific and narrow (“I am writing about snakes” is too vague for a strong thesis statement. “The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long and is located in Arizona” is TOO narrow for a thesis statement. ) Should be included in your intro paragraph and can be found in an analysis, argumentative, or informative writing
