MAY 1, 2014 THE LOOK AND FEEL OF TASKSTREAM
2
PERCEPTION OF ASSESSMENT: COMPLIANCE Accreditation Write Outcomes Identify Assessments Gather Results PackageResults SubmitReports
3
STUDENTS Name Expectations for Learning Communicate Expectations to Students Collect Student Work Determine Extent of Learning Strategize New Student Success Plans IDEAL ASSESSMENT: INTENTIONALLY FOCUSED ON STUDENTS
4
HOW CAN TASKSTREAM HELP US GET THERE? Provide repository for outcomes assessment data… AND Create/track action plans to improve student success Manage assessment cycles at course, program and institutional levels Simplify reporting Seamlessly integrate large volumes of assessment data from all divisions (college-wide) for program review, accreditation and improvement
5
General Access Faculty are “affiliated” with course/program workspace Course assessment workspaces - THEN vs NOW… a comparison of SLOJet and Taskstream - Cycle extension to improve assessment - Mapping capability Program assessment workspaces - Assessment plan cycle and specifics - Mapping capability - Curriculum maps TOUR OF MIRAMAR TASKSTREAM
6
GENERAL ACCESS FACULTY ACCOUNTS AND AFFILIATION
7
Upon login, each faculty will access a welcome page with assigned workspaces
8
Program workspaces
9
Course workspaces
10
LEARNING OUTCOMES, ASSESSMENT PLANS, ACTION PLANS AND ALIGNMENT MAPPING OF OUTCOMES COURSE ASSESSMENT WORKSPACES
11
COURSE ASSESSMENT: THEN… Course assessment using SLOJet -Section data individually entered in SLOJet -Course assessment occurred every semester -Faculty Course Leads perform analysis of all section data and enter analysis in SLOJet -Repeat cycle
12
Each section instructor would enter data each semester
13
SLO statements; outcome data (% meeting standard)
14
Results: section by section list of data; Faculty Course Leads need to access and analyze
15
Summary of analyses; repeat cycle
16
COURSE ASSESSMENT: THEN… AND NOW Course assessment using Taskstream -Course assessment occurs during a 3 year cycle (current cycle ends in Spring 2015) - Aggregate course outcome data entered into Taskstream by Faculty Course Leads - Action plans are identified to improve student learning - Status reports provided on action plans - Direct mapping to program level and institutional level outcomes
17
Standing requirement is Course Outcomes (can be edited at any time)
18
Course outcomes can be mapped to program and new institutional outcomes
19
Assessment cycle has 4 sections
20
“Assessment plan” section includes measures, targets, timeline and responsible personnel
21
Also contains space to attach documents or links
22
“Assessment Findings” section includes aggregated assessment data and target achievement
23
Includes space to attach evidence
24
“Action plan” section includes improvement plans, timeline, personnel, budget requests and priority
25
“Status report” section includes updates on action plan, budget, and next steps
26
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US? Three-year cycle to complete course assessment (current cycle ends Spring 2015) Faculty “course leads” need to be in place for every course Fall 2014 course data entry can be any aggregated data accumulated between Spring 2013 and Fall 2014 (can use data previously entered in SLOJet, new data, etc.)
27
PROGRAM ASSESSMENT WORKSPACES LEARNING OUTCOMES, ASSESSMENT PLANS, ACTION PLANS, AND CURRICULUM MAPS
28
PROGRAM ASSESSMENT: THEN… AND NOW THEN -Program outcomes listed in catalog -Outcomes may or may not address degrees/certificates -No assessment plan NOW -Program outcomes revised to address degrees/certificates -Assessment plan developed -Program outcome assessment by Spring 2015
29
Program assessment workspace has 3 Standing Requirements
30
Program outcomes apply to degrees/certificates in each program
31
Program outcomes can be mapped to new institutional outcomes
32
New capability… curriculum maps!
33
CURRICULUM MAPS Map provides program- wide visual of how courses support program outcomes
34
Assessment cycle contains 4 sections (same for courses)
35
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US? Three-year cycle to complete program assessment (current cycle ends Spring 2015) Program outcomes and assessment plans can be recorded for all degrees/certificates in a program Curriculum maps can provide visual of how courses support a program (i.e. degree/certificate) Program assessment plans must be in Taskstream by end of Fall 2014.

ANALYTICS FOR COLLEGE AS A WHOLE Analytic reports show college- wide results in workspace areas (e.g. course assessment)
52
DEFINITION OF “PROGRAM” FOR OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES
53
WHAT IS MEANT BY “PROGRAM” IN REGARDS TO ASSESSMENT? Miramar… defines program as a field of study that includes at least one award and at least one subject area. Title V … defines program as “an organized sequence of courses leading to a defined objective, a degree, a certificate, a diploma, a license or transfer” ACCJC… asks that we have outcomes assessment for all programs, degrees and certificates
54
WHAT IS MEANT BY “PROGRAM” IN ASSESSMENT? Miramar Program Art Degrees/certificates (we call them“awards”; Title V calls them “programs”) AA in Art/Visual Studies AA in Combined Drawing/Painting AA in Craft Skills AS/CA in Graphics AA in Studio Arts
55
DESIGNING PROGRAM OUTCOMES Degrees and certificates AA in Art/Visual Studies AA in Combined Drawing/Painting AA in Craft Skills AS/CA in Graphics AA in Studio Arts Goals and Purpose Mission statement? What will a student who completes this degree/cert be able to do? What concepts or skills run throughout all or many of the degree/cert’s courses? What skills or knowledge will students who complete the degree/cert have? What will students gain from completing this degree/cert?

RESOURCES Guidelines for Writing Program Outcomes and Assessment Plans http://www.sdmiramar.edu/webfm_send/13658 Program Outcome and Assessment Plan Form http://www.sdmiramar.edu/webfm_send/13656 (Please note that the ISLO mapping section is no longer accurate because ISLOs have changed, so it does not need to be completed on the form. ISLO mapping will happen in Taskstream)
