Ask for help. If you have any questions you should set up a time to meet with your counselor

6 Parchment.com Use it for transcripts If you do the profile part, be careful using the percent chance of getting accepted to any particular college Example: you applied to Luther College and based on your profile in Parchment you have a 45% chance of being admitted (don’t look at the numbers) Use your legal name when ordering transcripts. Example: Dave or David

7 NCAA Clearinghouse Students who would like to participate in Division I or II athletics need to complete the requirements of the NCAA Clearinghouse. To do so, go to: www.eligibilitycenter.org

8 School Profile Our school profile describes our school It is sent with every transcript ordered through parchment and is a part of the common application College Fairs October 13-Performing and Visual Arts October 21 and 22-National College Fair Both are at Minnapolis Convention Center

16 Financial Aid Process #1 financial aid application is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) *Complete the FAFSA after January 1 *www.fafsa.gov *The FAFSA helps to determine your eligibility for certain types of financial aid (loans, grants, scholarships, work study) Complete as many scholarship applications as possible. Some useful websites are: www.getreadyforcollege.org www.maefgives.org www.mahtomedi.k12.mn.us/highschool Do a google search: “Useful online resources” Your Naviance account

17 Making a Final Decision Many colleges require students to decide on attendance by May 1. If you know sooner, please let them know so that they can offer space to other students. Our counseling website has all kinds of resources for you to help you in your planning

18 Some suggestions…. Stay organized Visit as many schools as possible Don’t rule out schools based on cost..financial aid may help you to afford a school you’re interested in Order your transcript and test scores in a timely manner Remember your goal is to graduate from college Ask teachers to write a recommendation early if necessary Proofread your college application Ask your colleges admissions counselor questions Don’t just settle for a college you’re really not excited about, continue to look until you find the college you really want Thank those who have helped you to achieve your goal of going to college
