1 Introduction and Welcome

2 Looking to the future... PPLI currently developing a short course in Russian which will be available to schools for delivery as part of the new Junior Cycle Framework – Short course will be 100 hours (60 hours Communicative Competence, 20 hours Language Awareness, and 20 hours Intercultural Competence) – Short courses may be introduced in schools from 2014 – PPLI can support the provision of this course in existing schools The emphasis of teaching and learning in the new course will be based on development of’ key skills’, ‘learning outcomes’ and role of ‘assessment for learning’, including self-assessment and peer-assessment. There will also need to be more emphasis on ‘educational standards’
