4
Remember SMART S= Specific and Strategic M=Measurable A=Action Oriented R=Rigorous, Realistic, and Results Focused (the 3 Rs) T=Timed and Tracked Now we will add the Action and possible Timing and Tracking to your goal, all while focusing on the Results
5
Part 1: Student Learning Goals: Planned Activities Review Student Learning Goal from Example 1 Let’s brainstorm ideas to help carry out this goal
6
Brainstorming from Example 1 Need to incorporate safety skills and employability skills into more of what I teach Need to strengthen technical skills and knowledge Need a way for students to demonstrate those skills and to assess that demonstration Need to analyze those assessments Need a way to revisit/re-teach if students do not understand these skills Need time!!!!! Need help!!!! Need a way to see of it worked Need to reflect on what happened in 2014-15

Part 1: Student Learning Goals: Planned Activities Review your Student Learning Goal Brainstorm ideas to help carry out this goal

Brainstorms to statements Just like we ask the students, take your brainstorms and make them sentences. Need to incorporate safety skills and employability skills into more of what I teach I will incorporate instruction of shop health and safety and employability skills into each cycle of instruction. Need to strengthen technical skills and knowledge Need a way for students to demonstrate those skills and to assess that demonstration I will assess these skills as a part of each unit’s overall assessment. Need to analyze those assessments Need a way to revisit/re-teach if students do not understand these skills When students do not demonstrate that they have learned essential safety and employability knowledge and skills, I will re-teach the skills/knowledge they did not master and re-assess the skills and knowledge. I will add “previously taught” questions to my tests throughout the year to see if students are retaining what was taught earlier.
9
Brainstorms to statements Just like we ask the students, take your brainstorms and make them sentences, again. Need time!!!!! – Make it I will use the last half hour of the day on Fridays to revisit and review as needed, important skills and knowledge from previous lessons Need help!!!! & Need to strengthen technical skills and knowledge I will work with the Literacy Coach to learn additional strategies for using technical reading and content based writing in my regular instruction Need a way to see of it worked I will include questions on my end of course assessment that measure student knowledge and skills from all strands of my Curriculum Framework Need to reflect on what happened in 2014-15 After the end of course assessment, I will work with my shop teachers to analyze the results and decide what we can do to improve results for next year.

Example 1
12
Resources What do you need as a teacher to implement some of the “actions,” you just stated? Not every Action needs a resource Sometimes the resource supports several actions
13
Supporting Your Actions/Example 1 I will incorporate instruction of shop health and safety and employability skills into each cycle of instruction. This is statement is obvious, maybe the teacher needs to refresh their safety and employability standards but that is not necessarily out of the norm I will assess these skills as a part of each unit’s overall assessment. This maybe an area where the teacher may seek support from a supervisor. Support is needed from my supervisor to help us link assessment questions to Standards. When students do not demonstrate that they have learned essential safety and employability knowledge and skills, I will re- teach the skills/knowledge they did not master and re-assess the skills and knowledge. I will add “previously taught” questions to my tests throughout the year to see if students are retaining what was taught earlier. The Action clarifies exactly what is needed. The previous resource may support this action as well.
14
Supporting Your Actions/Example 1 I will use the last half hour of the day on Fridays to revisit and review as needed, important skills and knowledge from previous lessons Do not be afraid from drawing from other teachers. (The best thieves are the best teachers.) I need to work with Ms. GHI from the Science Dept. on developing and using some of the high energy games she uses to review with her students I will work with the Literacy Coach to learn additional strategies for using technical reading and content based writing in my regular instruction This one is obvious. Literacy Coach I will include questions on my end of course assessment that measure student knowledge and skills from all strands of my Curriculum Framework After the end of course assessment, I will work with my shop teachers to analyze the results and decide what we can do to improve results for next year. These two go together, and sometimes all you need is time to collaborate. I need utilize PLC with the shop teachers in my program to review our end of course assessments as well as feedback form my PLC buddies…

Actions and Resources
17
Develop the Timeline Give yourself a “deadline,” and stick to it. List how often you will implement this action State how often you may access your “Resources” State when an action or resource will take place (i.e. unit plan, field trip or guest speaker)

Closing Be sure to share all information on Teach Point If you are working on Team Goals, all members of the team should have the same goal in their Goal Setting Form and the whole team must work together to develop the Educator Plan. However, not all of the teams’ Educator Plans will be the same. Good luck

Part II Now do this for Professional Practice Goals Let’s look at Part II on handout
22
Professional Practice Goals: Planned Activities Review Professional Practice Goal for all New Teachers Let’s brainstorm ideas to help carry out this goal
23
Brainstorming from Professional Practice Need to participate in New teacher trainings Need to meet with mentor Need a way document participation Need to submit entries into a reflective journal Need to write summaries for evidence Need to get something out of mentoring Need time!!!!! Need help!!!! Need to reflect I will be an active participant and a reflective learner in this year’s new teacher training and mentoring program by attending and participating in all scheduled group meetings. On a regular basis (a minimum of once a month) I will meet individually with my mentor. The evidence of my participation and reflective learning will be: ◦ My mentor’s record of our meetings (to be submitted to evaluator by mentor upon request) ◦ Four one page summaries of my learning, to be submitted by November 12 th, January 8 th, March 1 th and April 15 th, and shown to my evaluator at goal review. ◦ Each trimester, I will observe a fellow teacher and write a reflection or answer guiding observation questions provided to me by my mentor. This will be shown to my evaluator at goal review.
