3. Roman Polanski was born on 18 August 1933 in Paris. His parents were Polish Jews. His true surname is Raymond Liebling. In 1937 he moved with his family to Cracow. During the Second World War they were kept in the Cracow ghetto for being Jews.

4. His parents were taken to concentration camps. His mother died in Auschwitz and his father survived in Mauthausen. Polanski successfully escaped the ghetto and he was raised in a village near Cracow.
