Reading: Making Meaning Leveling with Fountas and Pinnell Teacher models reading strategies that build comprehension and social skills. 45 minute stamina 20 minutes a night (Eagle Reader!) Shared Reading, Guided Reading, Independent Reading *CAFÉ goal

Writing Lucy Calkins (aligned with CCSS) Narrative Stories, Information Books, Opinion Essay, Persuasive Essay On-Demand shows growth Use the same model as Reading; Focus Lesson on a skill, practice together, independent writing.

Math: Everyday Math Goal of memorizing all multiplication facts (Please practice at home!) EDM games are online Daily homework based on classroom lesson IXL online *Changing curriculum next year!

Social Studies Washington State- Regions and Maps Washington State History- Native Americans, Lewis and Clark, Pioneers and Statehood JA BizTown- Economy and finance education

Science This year we will be studying: States of Matter (The Toy Guy) Earth, Moon, and Sun Earth’s Changing Surfaces Ecosystems

Long-term Projects September-PowerPoint presentation on a location within a Washington Region that the student has visited (Due 9/28) March-Science projects within the Science units. (Water, Water Everywhere! And Slick Solution) *Science Fair is optional

Art and Technology Art and technology will be integrated in many subjects Art – a variety of activities during or upon the conclusion of a unit. (Clay Leaf, Owl Art, Seattle Skyline, volcano poem/art, etc.) Technology – TypeToLearn, PowerPoint, online math games, ActivBoard *ITP!!!

4 th Grade Expectations: Personal Responsibility – for the student Homework: homework calendar, nightly assignments are due the next day unless otherwise stated (Rewards/Fines) Purple Folders! Absences: Student has 1 day per sick day to make up work. Encourage students to ask for more time if needed.

JOBS Jobs: Every week, the students rotate jobs (each student will do each job eventually) Can earn $! Money is earned for jobs and for following classroom procedures or for setting a great example or for an outstanding answer! Money is spent on Market Place Day!

Volunteers Classroom Room parent (help with class parties, WA Feast and other special events) Reading one-on-one with students, math group Clerical; copies, filing Art Docent, Science Prep Helper Field Trips

Field Trips: The Toy Guy: Air and Matter assembly- October 13 th Olympia Field Trip-March 25 th (Friday) JA BizTown- May 16 th (Monday) Kate Poaster-Science to Go Kits- 2 in school presentations Thank you PTA for helping keep the cost low!!

Conferences: December 2 nd & 3 rd (Wednesday & Thursday) Scheduling online through Skyward 10/6-10/30 I would like to have your child present at their conference.

Report Cards 1 st Trimester: November 25 th 2 nd Trimester: April 8 th 3 rd Trimester: June 16 th (depending on the last day of school) *Find report cards online! 4-Exceeds Standard 3-Meets Standard 2-Approaches Standard 1-Well-Below Standard

Testing Smarter Balance- Testing window is in March-June ELA and Math (Performance Task and CAT)
