CA ARCserve r16.5 now supports Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 operating system environments. It delivers enhanced performance, reliability and usability features to make your CA ARCserve solution even more valuable. Overview
4
Windows Server 2012 Highlights
5
NTFS Dedupe functionality Windows 2012 introduces NTFS dedupe. Deduplication for Primary Storage Volume level setting with background process for Offline dedupe operations. NTFS Deduplication Process Segment Data into small variable sized chunks Identify duplicate chunks and Maintain a single copy of each chunk Replace redundant copies of each chunk with a reference to a single copy Compress Chunk
6
ReFS Windows Server 2012 introduces a new local file system called Resilient File System (ReFS). Maximizes data availability and online operation Data integrity ensures that business-critical data is protected from errors REFS Features Data integrity - Mirrored Storage Space, and integrity streams helps in achieving this Availability - Removes corrupt data from the namespace on a live volume with rest data unaffected. Scalability - Designed to work well with extremely large data sets Proactive error identification - Integrates with a data scrubber that periodically scans the volume, trying to detect latent corruption
7
Storage Spaces Windows Server 2012 introduces a new storage virtualization capability Storage spaces features Organization of physical disks into storage pools, which can be easily expanded by simply adding disks Added new capabilities such as thin provisioning Storage spaces has resiliency capability through Mirroring and Parity
8
New Features in Hyper-V Windows Server 2012 introduces several new features for Hyper-V Scale beyond virtual local area networks (VLANs)using network virtualization Migrate VMs and Virtual storage Migrating outside a clustered environment Provides support for up to 64 processors and 1 TB of memory for guest OS A new VHDX format with larger disk capacity that supports up to 64 TB per virtual disk Hyper-V Replica, which replicates VMs to an offsite location and provides failover
9
Distributed VSS Server applications such as SQL, Hyper-v can store DB files or VHD files on UNC paths Current VSS only supports shadow copy of local disks Distributed VSS supports shadow copies for data stored on remote file shares Both application server and File server must be running on “windows 2012” The “File server VSS Agent Service” role must be installed on the file server(s) Both application server and file server must be joined to Active Directory domain
10
What’s New in CA ARCserve® Backup r16.5 Windows Server 2012/Windows 8 Support
11
Windows Server 2012 Enhanced Support NTFS Dedupe support ReFS support Hyper-V 3.0 support Distributed VSS support Storage Spaces support VM
12
4KB Sector Drives Support Overview Client Agent Backup and restore of volumes on 4k sector disks is supported All writer backups and restores are supported VMAgent Backup and Restore/Recovery of Hyper-V VM's on 4k sector disk is supported Benefits Increased flexibility in selecting storage devices
13
Overview New Cloud Providers in this release Microsoft Azure Fujitsu Cloud (Azure compatible). Eucalyptus 3.0 and 3.1 are supported. Benefits Increased flexibility to leverage public cloud resources for disaster recovery Cloud Provider updates
14
Updated MS Application Support Overview MS Exchange 2013 and MS SharePoint 2013 are supported Benefits Use the latest Microsoft applications and achieve comprehensive data protection
15
LTO6 Device Support Overview LTO6 devices are being supported. From HP, IBM, etc.. End-to-End Logical Block Protection feature support. Benefits Use LTO6 devices that support faster drives to speed backup and recovery as part of your strategy
16
What’s New in CA ARCserve® D2D r16.5 Windows Server 2012/Windows 8 Support
17
Windows Server 2012 Enhanced Support NTFS Dedupe support ReFS support Hyper-V 3.0 support Distributed VSS support Storage Spaces support VM
18
Catalog-less Backup Overview Option to create catalog at the end of backup Disabled by default – no catalogs after every backup Users can create catalog at any time Still support file level restores by mounting recovery points during restore Benefits Increased flexibility in selecting storage devices
19
WinPE Replacement for BMR Microsoft no longer allows inclusion of WinPE ISO for BMR D2D r16.5 includes a utility to help create WinPE ISO
20
UEFI to BIOS Conversion Overview Restore the entire machine on BIOS to UEFI Restore the entire machine on UEFI to BIOS *Note: Conversion supported only for OSs that support both kinds of firmware Benefits Gain more flexibility when restoring data. Go from uEFI to BIOS and vice- versa. Especially useful when performing Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) as you don't need to have the same type of hardware which may mean faster and less expensive recovery.
21
4KB Sector Drives Support Overview Backup and restore of volumes on 4k sector disks is supported Benefits Increased flexibility in selecting storage devices
22
Updated MS Application Support Overview MS Exchange 2013 database level backup and restore Benefits Use the latest Exchange release and achieve data protection
23
CA ARCserve® Central Applications Updates CA ARCserve® Central Protection Manager and CA ARCserve® Central Reporting can be used to deploy, manage and report on CA ARCserve D2D in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 environments. CA ARCserve® Central Host Based VM Backup (VMware VMs Only) includes all the same Windows Server 2012 support listed above for CA ARCserve D2D. CA ARCserve® Central Virtual Standby now supports “remote deployment” across a Wide Area Network through integration with CA ARCserve® Replication. Customers and Partners like MSPs can now replicate CA ARCserve D2D recovery points to a remote site and then automatically convert the recovery points to VM format and quickly stand them up after a production server failure for fast system recovery. This application also now supports failover of Hyper-V v3.0 VMs.
24

25
Windows Server 2012 Enhanced Support NTFS Dedupe support ReFS support Hyper-V 3.0 support Storage Spaces support VM
26
Integration with CA ARCserve D2D Host-based VM Backup Overview Replicate CA ARCserve D2D host-based VMware backups offsite for disaster recovery Benefits Leverage the ease and speed of host-based backup while migrating backups offsite for disaster recovery
27
4KB Sector Drives Support Overview Replicate data stored on 4K sector formatted drives and also use them as the Replica storage device Perform continuous data protection to complement periodic backups Benefits Increased flexibility in selecting storage devices
28
SQL Server Filestreams Support Overview All BLOB data is automatically discovered and replicated with SQL Server Filestreams support Benefits Achieve better SQL Server protection
29
Gain better Linux protection with Linux Global Mount to be able to support multiple file systems under the same directory and support overlapped root directories in replication and HA scenarios. Enhanced Oracle system and data protection includes Multiple Instance Support that enables replication and HA scenarios for multiple Oracle systems installed on a single Windows Server using auto discovery for easy deployment. Other Non-Windows Enhancements
