The Outwood Grange Family of Schools Home learning: Examination Strategy MARCH 2016 1
2
The Outwood Grange Family of Schools Rationale The new examination strategy will be launched in March 2016 for all academy students from years 7-11. This will be linked to Praising Stars and Home Learning to ensure that students are given regular opportunities to improve and that this improvement is rigorously monitored and reported to parents/carers. The new exam strategy will: Adequately prepare students for examinations in KS4 reflecting the change in government focus with increased examinations, limited controlled assessment and no opportunity to re-sit. Equip students with the skills to understand and effectively respond to examinations to the best of their ability. Improve GCSE results in all subjects. Embed standardisation procedures amongst departmental staff. Launch a whole school culture of actively re-drafting after feedback to demonstrate understanding and improvement. 2

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools Home Learning Strategy This academic year we have implemented a new home learning strategy that will consolidate and extend progress made in lessons. In order to do this effectively we have linked home learning to teacher feedback. This encourages students to act upon teacher feedback and demonstrate progress. As part of our Marking and Assessment Policy staff use PIN marking to give students detailed feedback. 3 P Praise/Positives In this section staff will identify what a student has done well in a particular piece of work. I Improvements In this section staff will identify what a student needs to do to improve the work further and in some cases achieve the next grade/level. N Next Steps In this section staff will give students instructions on what to do next. Eg) Re-draft for home learning acting upon my feedback. To make it clear to students exactly what needs to be re-drafted we have linked marking to a new initiative called the Pink Box Strategy. Staff will highlight areas/questions that need to be re-drafted with a pink box. Once students have completed home learning and re- submitted work it will be marked again to identify improvements. In this booklet you will find an overview of home learning for all year groups for the Summer term. There will be 3 quality homeworks per Praising Stars All home learning will also be written in students planners at the time it is set. This booklet is also available on the school website www.redcaracademy.com

Sharing exemplar answers. 2. Re-drafting strategies explored (pink box strategy, magpie technique). 3. Re-draft re-marked demonstrating improvement. How can we ensure this is timely? What support is needed? 5
