3 Each of the national press can be characterised as belonging to one of two distinctive categories: The reason why quality newspapers are called broadsheets and the popular tabloids is because they are different shapes. The broadsheets is twice as large as the tabloids NEWSPAPERS QUALITY PRESS or BROADSHEETS POPULAR PRESS or TABLOIDS

5 QUALITY PRESS usually for better educated readers more space to politics and other „serious“ news more texts than pictures POPULAR PRESS sold to a much larger readership less print far more pictures larger headlines simplier style of language „human interest“ stories (which often means scandal)

6 PAPERS IN BRITAIN None of the big national newspapers belongs to a political party. However, each paper has an idea of what kind of reader it is appealing to and a fairly predictable political outlook.
