Big Brothers Big Sisters: Bowl for Kids Sake

BBBS History  BBBS has been helping children across North America for over 100 years since its founding in 1904.  In 1904 Big Brothers was founded with 39 volunteers each agreeing to mentor one boy  a group called Ladies of Charity was organizing a similar mentoring program for the girls who had been through the New York Children’s Court.

History Continued...  In 1977, the two groups merged to become Big Brother Big Sisters.  Today, BBBS is an international organization and operates in 13 countries to help over 270,000 children worldwide.

Niagara Region BBBS  This fundraising proposal is specific to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Niagara agency.  In 2010, this agency had over 350 children enrolled in the BBBS programs; there are an additional 85 children on the waiting list.

Impressive National Stats  91% of ‘Littles’ feel better about themselves  80% are more likely to graduate from high school  78% are less likely to rely on social assistance as adults  46% are less likely to start using drugs.

Wii the Students Bowl For Kids Sake New Direction  This name incorporates Nintendo’s play on words and gives ownership to the students  Wii bowling is relatively involved logistically  Very inexpensive to execute/profitable

Wii Step-By-Step  Players raise funds via pledges  Players are formed into teams and are assigned to a console station  Multiple Nintendo Wii systems are brought in to the gym, cafeteria or in the Student Centres (The Armory, The Core, and Isaacs)  approximately 20 minutes per 4 students per game  8 Wii stations x 4 players = 32 players per shift  If this event takes place over camp hour, there can be two shifts, thus 64 players
