1 WELCOME! GRESHAM HIGH SCHOOL Forecasting for Incoming Sophomores

2 Forecasting: Step by Step 1. Fill out Forecasting Sheet. 2. Research classes. 3. Get signatures from your parents and teachers. 4. Use Course Planning Guide for help. 5. Meet with your counselor as needed. 6. Turn in form to your teacher by due date. 7. Enter class choices online.

3 What to Consider When Forecasting  Graduation Requirements  General University Requirements  Honor Roll & NCAA Requirements  Special Programs offered to GHS students:  International Baccalaureate (IB)  CAL  AVID

4 Graduation Credit Requirements  Language Arts 4.00  Social Studies 3.00  Math 3.00  Science 3.00  World Language 1.00  Physical Ed 1.00  Health 1.00  Career/Fine Arts/Tech *2.00  Electives 7.00 Total Credits Required: 25.50 credit must be earned in Technology *may be earned in tech, fine arts, foreign language.50 credit must be earned in Technology *may be earned in tech, fine arts, foreign language

5 How many classes do I take?  Freshmen = 7 classes  Sophomores = 7 classes  Juniors take at least 6 classes.  Seniors take at least 5 classes.

6 General University Requirements A minimum grade of “C” in core courses  4 years of English  3 years of Mathematics - (including Algebra 2)  3 years of Science  3 years of Social Studies  2 years of the same World Language  16 academic credits in core subject areas .5 credit in a Visual/Performing Fine Arts class is recommended

7 Additional College Requirements Minimum GPA (grade point average) for admission:  3.00 for U of O (review process)  3.00 OSU, PSU, OIT, SOU  2.75 for EOU, WOU Universities also require ACT/SAT test scores.

8 Honor Roll & Athletics  Honor Roll requires 6 graded classes. Any class taken for Pass/No Pass credit will not count.  Participating in Athletics requires passing 5 graded classes.  For NCAA eligibility: Need 16 Core Credits Register with NCAA Junior Year See Athletic Director for Questions.

9 International Baccalaureate (IB) IB classes are the most challenging courses offered at GHS for Juniors and Seniors. IB Program Options:  Earn a full IB diploma  Take 4 years of a World Language  Take IB Tests and Earn college credit  Take one or more IB classes in strong subject area NOTE: Students can forecast for IB classes during the sophomore year. 10 Forecasting Sheet 1. Fill in personal info at top of sheet. 2. Mark classes with an “X.” 3. Mark Alternates in order: A1, A2, A3. 4. Plan for 7 seven credits! 5. Classes in Bold need teacher signatures. 6. Discuss with Parent/guardian and sign!

11 Choosing CORE Classes  For ENGLISH, MATH, SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:  CONSULT WITH YOUR TEACHERS TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT CLASSED!  TEACHERS WILL LOOK OVER FORMS AND SIGN  USE THE COURSE PLANNING GUIDE FOR HELP!

12 Electives  Choose electives carefully! Changes are hard to make!  Grades in electives DO MATTER!  Remember Teacher Aides:  One period per semester  Requires teacher’s signature  Cannot aide during teacher’s prep time
