FMF Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman 8427/8403 Who are we? And what do we do? A SARC Provides medical and operational services for Fleet Marine Force Reconnaissance and Marine Special Operations personnel engaged in direct action and reconnaissance operations. He performs paramedical skills, basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, minor surgical procedures, routine and emergency medical health care procedures as required. Instructs and advises operational personnel in measures for prevention of illness and treatment of injuries associated with swimming, open and closed circuit SCUBA diving, military free-fall and amphibious operations. He performs duties using SCUBA and UBA in direct support of Special Operation units. Conduct underwater searches, to include detailed ship-bottom searches. Inspect and maintain SCUBA and UBA equipment. Knows the laws of diving and gas physics and understands the theory and practice of decompression and the use of decompression tables. Performs duties as a hyperbaric chamber operator. Recognizes all types of illnesses associated with diving to include oxygen and carbon dioxide toxicity, nitrogen narcosis, type I and II decompression sickness and air gas embolism. Enters the chamber as the inside tender to care for patients suffering from decompression sickness as well as other conditions requiring hyperbaric treatment. Earns the DoD certification of Advanced Tactical Practitioner, and deploys world wide with various Special Operation Forces units.

FMF Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman 8427/8403 Screening Screening and Evaluation Criteria Candidate Requirements: Must be a volunteer US Citizen Active duty Secret security clearance eligible HM/DT Male (No waivers) 30 years of age (case by case waiver) E-5 or below ASVAB AR/WK = 100 Meet Dive/NSW Medical requirements Pass a Hyperbaric Pressure Test Observe 36 months after receiving 8427 NEC Eval trait marks 3.0 or greater in last 3 evals No NJPs within 18 months Pass a PST Pass a SARC Interview Recommended by CO

FMF Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman 8427/8403 Fitness Test ENTRANCE PHYSICAL FITNESS SCREENING: 500yd swim utilizing breast/side or combo in 12:30 or less 10 Minute Rest period Max effort push-ups in 2: minimum Two minute rest period Max effort sit-ups in 2: minimum Max effort pull-ups in 2: minimum 10 Minute rest period 1.5 mile timed run in running shoes, t-shirt and shorts in 10:30 or less *MILPERSMAN

FMF Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman 8427/8403 APPLICATION PACKAGE REQUIREMENTS Any Command Fitness Coordinator may proctor the Physical Screening in the absence of a Recon/SpecWar/Dive representative. Any Command Career Counselor may screen candidates for suitability. The letter of recommendation must be completed by a SARC and documenting the results of the Physical Screening Test.
