Surface area and Volume

What is surface area? ● Surface area is the area of all the surface of a 3-D figure. Pictured lift is a cube net. A net is the lay out of the 3-D figure.

What is volume? ● Volume is the capacity of a 3-D figure can hold. Pictured right are some 3- D figures.

How to find surface area. ● You find surface area by adding up all the areas of the bases, and faces. Pictured right is a pyramid to find the surface area you have to find the bases, and faces area first. The formula is SA=2b*h+b^2.

How to find volume. ● Volume for all 3-D is V=Bh, then you use the formula to find the base of the shape to find the volume. Pictured right is a cube to find its volume you do l*w*h. Which would be 20*8*8=1280ft3

Cubes surface area and volume ● To find the surface area of a cube you use the formula SA=6s^2, for volume you use V=Bh=l**w*h. Suppose the cubs in the picture are 3in long, 3 in wide, 3 in tall. The surface area would be 54in2, and the volume would be27in 3.

Rectangular prisms surface area and volume. ● To find the surface and volume of a rectangular prism you use the formulas SA=2(l*h+l*w+w*h), V=Bh=l*w *h. If the tissue box pictured is 5in wide, 10in long, and 6 in tall the surface area would be 280in2, and the volume would be 300in3

Cylinders surface are and volume. ● To find the surface area and volume of a cylinder you will use the formulas SA=2*3.14*r*h+2*3.14*r^2, V=Bh=3.14*r^2*h. If the if the soup can pictured lift has a radius of 6mm and a height of 10mm, the surface area would be 202.88 the volume would be 1,130.

Cones surface area and volume. ● To find the surface area you use SA=3.14*r*s+3.14*r^2, volume you use V=Bh=3.14*r^2*h. If one of the cone pictured has a radius of 7cm and a height of 13cm the surface area would be 3,033cm2, the volume would be 2,00cm3.

Square Pyramid ● To find the surface area and volume of a square pyramid, you use the formulas SA=2*b*h+b^2, volume is V=1/3 b^2*h. If the stone pictured lift has a base of 8in and a height of 15in the surface area would be 304in2, the volume would be 21.33in3,

Sphere ● To find the surface area and volume of a sphere you use the formulas SA=4*3.14*r^2, volume V=4/3*3.14*r^3. If the statue pictured lift has a radius of 10in the surface area would be 1,256in2, the volume would be 4,189in3
